Job description

We are seeking a reliable and experienced Mechanic to maintain and repair landscape equipment, installation equipment, and light-duty fleet vehicles for a growing commercial landscape company. This role is responsible for diagnosing mechanical issues, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring crews have safe and reliable equipment to operate daily.

The Mechanic will report directly to the Shop Manager and work closely with field supervisors to minimize downtime and keep equipment operating efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain commercial landscaping equipment, including:

    • Zero-turn mowers

    • Stand-on mowers

    • String trimmers, edgers, blowers, hedge trimmers

    • Chainsaws and handheld power equipment

    • Small engines (2-cycle and 4-cycle)

  • Perform repairs and maintenance on installation and construction equipment, including:

    • Skid steers

    • Mini excavators

    • Trenchers

    • Compact track loaders

    • Plate compactors and other site equipment

  • Assist with maintenance and minor repairs on company trucks, trailers, and fleet vehicles

  • Perform preventative maintenance programs on equipment and fleet

  • Inspect equipment returned from crews and identify repair needs

  • Maintain repair logs and service records

  • Coordinate parts ordering and maintain organized inventory

  • Ensure equipment meets safety and operational standards

  • Maintain a clean and organized shop

  • Communicate equipment status and repair timelines to the Shop Manager

Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience working as a mechanic, equipment technician, or small engine technician

  • Strong knowledge of small engines and commercial landscape equipment

  • Experience servicing compact construction equipment (skid steers, mini excavators, trenchers, etc.)

  • Basic knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems

  • Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues efficiently

  • Valid driver’s license required

  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in a shop environment

Preferred Experience
  • Experience working with commercial landscape or construction companies

  • Familiarity with brands such as Toro, Exmark, Stihl, Echo, Husqvarna, Kubota, Bobcat, Vermeer, or similar

  • Welding or fabrication experience is a plus
