Summary
The Business, Engineering, & Technology (BET) Division and Computer Science and Cyber Technology Department at Howard Community College is seeking individuals who would like to apply for adjunct (part-time) faculty in Computer Concepts. This pool will be utilized to fill part-time openings to fill available sections.
Essential Role Responsibilities
• Teach our 3-credit Computer Concepts
• Plan, organize, and teach curriculum content in alignment with course objectives
• Use applicable technology and pedagogical principles, teach course content via an appropriate delivery format (may include face-to-face, online, and remote instruction).
• Complete required institutional training and professional development
• Follow department and division requirements for preparing a course syllabus
• Plan and deliver appropriate instructional activities that promote student engagement and learning
• Evaluate student performance using assessment tools as directed by the department
• Inform students in a timely manner of their progress
• Maintain an up-to-date electronic grade book and enter final grades by the established due date
• Comply with attendance and grading requirements as established for the course
• Participate in departmental evaluation and course assessment processes as needed
• Maintain regular communication with students, including timely replies to student emails
• Use the assigned HCC email and/or CANVAS LMS for communication with the department and with students.
• Keep up to date with current industry standards
Minimum Education Required
Experience Required
• Bachelor's degree or higher in information technology, computers systems, cybersecurity or similar related field
• CompTIA Tech+ certification, Cisco Certified Support Technician (CCST) IT or higher (e.g. CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+) required
• Evidence of teaching excellence and commitment to the community college philosophy and mission
• Interested candidate must be available to teach day, evening, and/or weekend sections
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
• A minimum of 2 years of IT field experience preferred
• Experience teaching at a community college preferred
Physical Demand Summary
• Use of overhead projector and/or dry-erased board for in-person class
• Use of Pearson MyLab IT and Yuja Verity Proctoring for all section modalities
