Technical Trainer

Desired Start Date: No later than 2 weeks after award

Clearance Requirement: Active Secret Security Clearance required at time of employment

Travel Requirement:Up to 25%

Position Summary

Fairwinds Technologies is seeking an experienced Technical Trainer with military avionics and communications systems expertise to support an AWACS modernization program. The selected candidate will develop and deliver training for aircrew, maintainers, and support personnel on advanced airborne communications systems, including UHF/VHF/HF radios, ARC-210, SATURN, and related mission systems.

The ideal candidate has experience in military avionics, airborne communications, and technical instruction, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into effective classroom and hands-on training.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop comprehensive training programs supporting avionics and communications system modernization initiatives.
  • Create and maintain Training System Implementation Plans (TSIPs).
  • Design and develop instructor-led, computer-based, classroom, and hands-on training materials.
  • Develop courseware, training aids, practical exercises, student guides, facilitator guides, examinations, and job performance aids.
  • Assist with the creation of technical content for aircrew operators, mission crew personnel, organizational and intermediate maintenance, software maintenance, and ground support personnel.
  • Ensure training products align with approved technical data, engineering changes, technical manuals, and system configurations.
  • Develop familiarization (FAM) and Type I training programs for operational and maintenance personnel.
  • Conduct classroom and hands-on instruction for system operators and maintainers.
  • Deliver instructor-led training for advanced radio systems, SATURN operations, secure communications and cryptographic procedures, mission computing interfaces, ground support systems, fault isolation and troubleshooting, and avionics installation and maintenance procedures.
  • Facilitate technical demonstrations, operator evaluations, and certification events.
  • Gather, analyze, and incorporate student feedback into training updates.
  • Support courseware reviews at development milestones.
  • Maintain training products throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Update training materials based on engineering changes, software updates, and revised technical orders.
  • Ensure all training materials meet contractual, program, cybersecurity, and export-control requirements.
  • Support development and validation of Technical Orders (TOs), maintenance manuals, operator manuals, training documentation, installation and checkout procedures.
  • Ensure consistency between courseware and approved technical publications.

Required Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Technical Training, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Aviation Maintenance, or a related technical discipline.

Equivalent military technical training and experience may be substituted.

Military Instructor Qualification or CompTIA Certified Technical Trainer (CTT+), preferred.

Experience

9+ years of experience in technical training, military aviation maintenance, avionics systems, or related operational support.

5+ years supporting military aircraft avionics or communications systems.

Experience developing and conducting formal technical training programs.

Experience creating technical courseware and instructor materials.

Experience supporting aviation maintenance training or operational training programs.

Strong understanding of avionics systems, aircraft integration, systems engineering, flight testing, certification, and defense acquisition processes.

Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, and customer relationship management skills.

Experience with AWACS, ISR, C2, airborne communications, or large aircraft mission systems.
