Position Overview
MKS2 is seeking a highly experienced Mission Command Exercise Leader to support the planning, coordination, execution, and assessment of Mission Readiness and Mission Command Exercises for O5-O6 level headquarters staffs. This key leadership position is responsible for designing and executing complex training exercises that enhance operational readiness, mission command proficiency, and staff integration across Special Operations Forces (SOF) organizations.
The Mission Command Exercise Leader will serve as the primary authority for exercise scheduling, design, planning, coordination, control, and execution while ensuring all exercise objectives align with operational requirements and customer expectations. This position is designated as Key Personnel under the contract.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the scheduling, design, planning, coordination, execution, and assessment of Mission Readiness and Mission Command Exercises for O5-O6 headquarters staffs.
  • Develop realistic and challenging exercise scenarios that support mission command training objectives and operational readiness requirements.
  • Synchronize exercise planning efforts across multiple organizations, stakeholders, and support personnel.
  • Direct exercise development activities, including concept development, training objectives, master scenario event lists (MSEL), and after-action review processes.
  • Provide senior-level guidance on mission command doctrine, operational planning, and SOF headquarters operations.
  • Coordinate resources, personnel, facilities, and training support necessary for successful exercise execution.
  • Oversee exercise-control functions and ensure adherence to approved timelines, standards, and performance objectives.
  • Evaluate headquarters staff performance and provide recommendations for improving mission readiness and operational effectiveness.
  • Prepare exercise-related reports, briefings, lessons learned, and after-action documentation for government leadership.
  • Manage exercise-development resources and support personnel to ensure efficient and effective exercise execution.
Required Qualifications
Education
  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution.
Military Experience
  • Graduate of the U.S. Army Special Forces Officer Qualification Course (18A) or Warrant Officer 180A qualification.
  • Graduate of Senior Service College or Warrant Officer Senior Service Education.
  • Extensive Special Operations Forces (SOF) experience.
  • Former Battalion Commander, Chief Warrant Officer at the Special Forces Group level or higher, or equivalent senior SOF leadership position.
  • Experience serving as a primary staff officer at the Special Operations Joint Task Force (SOJTF) level or higher.
Clearance
  • Active Secret Security Clearance required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Demonstrated expertise in exercise design, development, and execution for operational-level headquarters.
  • Experience managing exercise-development resources, personnel, and support teams.
  • Strong understanding of mission command principles, operational planning, and military decision-making processes.
  • Experience supporting Joint, Combined, Interagency, or Special Operations training exercises.
  • Exceptional leadership, organizational, communication, and briefing skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Expert knowledge of Special Operations Forces missions, doctrine, and command structures.
  • Advanced understanding of mission command systems, operational planning processes, and headquarters operations.
  • Ability to lead senior military personnel through complex training events and readiness exercises.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in dynamic operational environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess training effectiveness and readiness outcomes.
Work Requirements
  • Ability to support on-site exercise planning events, rehearsals, and execution activities as required.
