Job description

Job Title: Cloud and Cybersecurity Engineer
Department: System Support
Reports To: Director of Cybersecurity & Infrastructure
Compensation: $95,000
TRS Classification: Non-Classified

Summary:
The Cloud and Cybersecurity Engineer leads efforts to secure the district's cloud and on-premises technology environment. This role oversees cybersecurity practices, supports risk and vulnerability management, and guides secure cloud architecture across platforms like AWS, Azure, and GCP. Working closely with IT teams and vendors, the engineer ensures best practices, supports system integration, and maintains clear documentation and reporting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
Cybersecurity Program Oversight
  • Provide overall cybersecurity oversight for the school/district environment.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of security controls across cloud and on-prem systems.
  • Partner with IT teams to ensure cybersecurity best practices are consistently applied.
  • Support risk assessments and security planning efforts.
Cloud Infrastructure & Architecture
  • Lead and advise on secure cloud infrastructure decisions across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  • Collaborate with cross-departmental teams to design and review cloud architectures.
  • Establish and maintain cloud security standards, guardrails, and best practices.
  • Support cloud migrations and modernization efforts with a security-first approach.
Vulnerability Management & Risk Reduction
  • Identify, assess, and coordinate remediation of security vulnerabilities.
  • Review findings from vulnerability scans, audits, and security tools.
  • Prioritize remediation efforts based on risk and operational impact.
  • Track remediation progress and communicate risk status to leadership.
Security Vendor & Tool Management
  • Oversee relationships with cybersecurity vendors and service providers.
  • Evaluate security tools and services for effectiveness and alignment with needs.
  • Coordinate with vendors on implementation, support, and issue resolution.
  • Assist with vendor renewals, reviews, and strategic planning.
Collaboration and Support
  • Collaborate with other System Support Teams to ensure proper integration and smooth communication between network infrastructure and other technology components.
  • Provide technical guidance to network & system administrators and other IT Service Desk staff on best practices and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Assist with the setup and maintenance of virtual environments, cloud-based networking, and hybrid networks.
Documentation and Reporting
  • Create, update, and maintain diagrams, topologies, configurations, and documentation to reflect the current state of the infrastructure.
  • Generate reports on cloud performance, incidents, and security findings for management review.
  • Review, rate, or propose annual cloud budgeting.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • There are no supervisory responsibilities at this time.
Education and/or Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure, or related fields.
  • Experience working in AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud.
  • Relevant certifications (preferred, not required):
    • Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP)
    • Security certifications (CISSP, CCSP, Security+)
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Cloud security and shared responsibility models
    • Identity and access management (IAM)
    • Network and infrastructure security fundamentals
Qualifications:
  • Experience coordinating vulnerability remediation efforts.
  • Ability to communicate risk and technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Familiarity with security frameworks and standards (NIST, CIS, Zero Trust).
  • Experience managing or coordinating security vendors.
  • Collaborate with other technology teams to ensure proper integrations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; demonstrated ability to present effectively and persuasively.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to learn information systems quickly, work independently, and to be e?ective in a fast-paced, dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Extensive experience with core software applications,

Computer Skills:
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and the Google Suite with the ability to manage multiple computer screens.
  • Must have a high aptitude to learn new software as necessary for the business operations of the school.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Current driver's license.
  • Valid car insurance.
