Job description

Build the platforms that accelerate mission software.
Modern software teams move at the speed of their tools. As a Software Engineering Intern - DevOps, you'll help design, automate, and improve the platforms that enable engineers to build, test, secure, and deploy software at scale. You'll work at the intersection of software engineering, cloud infrastructure, automation, and developer experience-creating systems that eliminate friction and help teams deliver capabilities faster and more reliably.
This isn't a traditional IT role. You'll write code, automate workflows, build cloud-native solutions, and contribute to the engineering platforms that power software delivery across mission-focused programs.
What Success Looks Like
By the end of your internship, you'll have contributed code, automation, and infrastructure that engineers use every day. You'll gain experience with modern software delivery practices, cloud-native technologies, and large-scale engineering environments while helping teams move faster, operate more efficiently, and deliver mission-critical capabilities with confidence.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Build and improve CI/CD pipelines that enable rapid and reliable software delivery.
  • Develop automation tools and services that reduce manual effort and improve engineering productivity.
  • Support cloud-native applications and deployment environments.
  • Create and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using modern automation frameworks.
  • Work with containers and orchestration platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Help engineers diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve deployment and operational issues.
  • Contribute software, scripts, and tooling that improve developer experience and platform capabilities.
  • Support observability initiatives through monitoring, logging, and operational dashboards.
  • Collaborate with software engineers to streamline development workflows and improve delivery velocity.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and Agile development activities.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with one or more programming languages such as Python, Java, C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Go.
  • Familiarity with software development practices and source control systems such as Git.
  • Working knowledge of Linux or Windows operating systems.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, and HTTP/HTTPS.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a technical team.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain required SECRET security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps, or similar development platforms.
  • Familiarity with cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience with containers and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Exposure to Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Bicep, Ansible, or CloudFormation.
  • Experience writing automation scripts using Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar languages.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and modern software delivery practices.
  • Exposure to observability and monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, ELK/OpenSearch, or Azure Monitor.
  • Understanding of Agile software development methodologies.
  • Coursework, personal projects, hackathons, or research involving cloud computing, automation, distributed systems, cybersecurity, or software engineering.
  • Active security clearance (if applicable).
