Job Summary:
LEMIT - Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas is seeking a Student Employee for their Information Security & Compliance Office. The role involves monitoring cybersecurity alerts, assisting with vulnerability scans, and conducting risk assessments to ensure security compliance.
Responsibilities:
• Under direction of Cybersecurity Analysts monitors and reacts, based on delineated processes, to cybersecurity alerts from cybersecurity tools, network devices, and information systems.
• May assist Cybersecurity Analysts with: Monitoring network traffic and flow for analysis.
• Cybersecurity incident detection, analysis, and prevention.
• Vulnerability scans of networks and applications to assess effectiveness and identify weaknesses.
• Risk assessments, risk analysis, audits to ensure security compliance.
• Delivery of cybersecurity awareness training.
• Under direction of EIR Accessibility Coordinator, may assist with: Accessibility assessments Maintaining records for all EIR documentation and support services, as described in TAC 213 and 206 Maintaining records for all exception requests and approvals, as in TAC 213.37 Assisting University employees and contractors with the procurement of accessible EIR .
• Performs related work as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Demonstrated attention to detail, professional attitude, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Skill in the use of a computer and applicable software; programming/scripting experience preferred.
• Requires a demonstrated ability to establish congenial work relationships and to communicate effectively within department or work-group, throughout the university with professional or managerial staff, and with outside vendors.
• Under supervision: Ability to resolve complex security issues in diverse and decentralized environments; to plan, develop, monitor, and maintain cybersecurity and information technology security processes and controls; to communicate effectively.
• Interprets and implements complex policies, laws, and standards relating to information security affecting the department or university level.
• Must have comprehensive computer skills and an interest/focus in Information Security and Compliance disciplines.
• Students must be enrolled for at least six (6) hours for the Fall and/or Spring semesters or at least three (3) summer hours with a minimum SHSU GPA of 2.5 and able to work a minimum of 20 hours per week, not to exceed 28 hours per week.
• International student workers are only allowed to work 20 hours per.
• To be eligible to work during the summer if not enrolled, students must have been enrolled for at least six (6) hours during the preceding Spring semester or registered for the next Fall semester with at least six (6) hours.
