POSITION SUMMARY

Currently, we are seeking a technically fluent and strategically minded Backend Capability Product Specialist to own the backend platform, API ecosystem, and third‑party integration layer of our SaaS product suite. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, business strategy, and market intelligence - driving the development of scalable, interoperable systems that power both internal capabilities and external partner integrations.

Expectations For The RoleBackend Platform & API Strategy
  • Own the product roadmap for backend systems, APIs, and data platform capabilities
  • Define API design standards, versioning strategies, and developer experience (DX) principles
  • Drive the vision for a scalable, event-driven microservices architecture in collaboration with engineering leads
  • Establish and govern API governance frameworks including authentication, rate limiting, and SLA commitments
Product Integrations & Ecosystem
  • Lead strategy and execution for third‑party integrations, partner APIs, and marketplace ecosystem development
  • Identify and prioritize integration opportunities with EHR/EMR platforms (Epic, Cerner, athenahealth, etc.), payer systems, and health data networks
  • Collaborate with technical architects to evaluate and adopt interoperability standards:
    • HL7 FHIR R4 / R4B
    • SMART on FHIR
    • Direct Messaging / TEFCA / QHIN participation
  • Manage the integration roadmap from vendor evaluation through production go‑live and ongoing lifecycle management
Market Intelligence & Capability Vision
  • Monitor and synthesize healthcare technology market trends, regulatory shifts (ONC, CMS), and competitive landscape to inform the backend roadmap
  • Evaluate emerging capabilities - including commercial AI model APIs (Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, OpenAI GPT), generative AI integration, and real‑time data streaming - and translate them into business‑ready features
  • Build ROI‑based business cases for platform investments, with quantified impact projections tied to revenue, retention, or efficiency
  • Partner with Sales, Customer Success, and pre‑sales teams to understand unmet integration and API needs from the market
Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Serve as the primary product owner embedded with backend engineering squads - running sprint planning, backlog grooming, and stakeholder reviews
  • Translate complex technical requirements into clear, actionable product specs, user stories, and acceptance criteria
  • Act as the internal API product evangelist, enabling internal teams to leverage platform capabilities effectively
  • Define and track platform KPIs: API adoption, uptime, latency, integration success rates, and developer satisfaction
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • At least 7 years of product management experience
  • 4+ years focused on backend systems, APIs, or platform products
  • Proven track record delivering SaaS platform features at scale - ideally in a B2B or enterprise context
  • Deep understanding of RESTful API design, webhooks, async messaging, and modern integration patterns
  • Hands‑on experience with API management platforms (e.g., Apigee, AWS API Gateway, Kong, MuleSoft)
  • Strong ability to build investment cases grounded in ROI modeling, market sizing, and competitive differentiation
  • Demonstrated experience leading API or platform product strategy - not just execution
  • Comfortable reading technical documentation, reviewing API specs (OpenAPI/Swagger), and participating in architectural discussions
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with engineering teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging from C‑suite to engineering
  • Familiarity with EHR/EMR platforms such as Epic, Oracle Health (Cerner), Athenahealth, or Meditech
  • Working knowledge of HL7 FHIR, CDA/C-CDA, and healthcare data interoperability frameworks
  • Understanding of HIPAA, 21st Century Cures Act, and ONC information‑blocking rules as they relate to API and data access obligations
  • Experience building or integrating with health information networks (HIEs, QHINs, or TEFCA participants)
  • Prior work with clinical workflows, care coordination platforms, or revenue cycle management (RCM) systems
