Job description

Teller Position

Delivering excellent customer service while performing teller transactions. Receiving deposits, cashing checks, verifying amounts and endorsements, processing loan payments, balancing currency, and coin in teller drawer, as well as explaining and promoting products and services.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assists customers and makes them feel welcome.
  • Answers phone and assists customers or transfers and routes calls as necessary.
  • Knowledgeable of Bank's products and services and explains, promotes, refers products and services to customers accurately.
  • Explains, promotes, and refers to Community Financial Advisors, Financial Services Officer, Mortgage Lenders & Commercial Lenders.
  • Receives checks and cash for deposit and loan payments; verifies amount and examines checks for endorsements.
  • Cashes checks and pays out money after verification of signatures and customer balances.
  • Places holds on accounts per the Funds Availability Procedure.
  • Accepts stop payment requests as needed.
  • Completes applicable forms and account maintenance as authorized.
  • Completes check orders for customers as needed.
  • Assists customers with access to safety deposit boxes.
  • Maintains individual cash drawer limit and verifies all cash entered.
  • Prepares work for teller processing.
  • Checks all incoming checks for fraud and cash for counterfeit currency.
  • Balances currency, coin and checks in drawer and compares total amount with data displayed in the teller processing system.
  • Accurately enters information into "Work with Person" in the teller processing system.
  • Tracks and reports monthly sales referrals.
  • May log night deposits or open night drop as needed.
  • May balance the ATM or serve as backup.
  • May assist with enrolling customers in Digital Banking
  • May assist in the opening and closing of the office as needed.
  • May maintain inventory of supplies in customer service area and assist with office supply ordering.
  • May assist with disputes (with approval). Completes dispute forms and forwards to Manager to sign off then forwards to Deposit Operations.
  • Attends training as needed or assigned.
  • Efficiently operates copy machines.
  • Represents the Bank in community involvement activities as scheduling allows with Manager/Supervisor approval.
  • Sets positive example for new employees.
  • Follows and supports the Company's policies and procedures accurately.
  • Positively represents the Company's culture and values.
  • Achieves annual goals as assigned.
  • Completes annual required regulatory training curriculums as assigned.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, discounts and interest.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
