Job description

Gillette Children's is hiring for a full time (40 hours per week) Seating Technician to join our orthotics, prosthetic & seating department! The hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm. This position is benefit eligible.
Purpose of Position:
This position pre-fabricates Gillette seating and adaptive equipment to a safe, functional and cosmetically pleasing that meets or exceeds Gillette and industry standards. Positions may require some patient contact if assistance is needed in a fitting, repair or adjust by a seating practitioner. Fabrication consists of Gillette custom seating, interfacing the seating system into a wheelchair and distributing seating products to the correct location. Fabrication of custom stock work of seating accessories which include the fabrication of anterior thoracic supports, medical thigh supports and headrests would be completed. Custom projects would include projects that are outside the established standards that are unique to our patients.
Specific duties are determined by the work setting or patient population served; however, in all positions, serving patients with challenging and complex conditions requires a concentration of specialized staff able to work in highly coordinated teams. We organize care around each patient's condition which requires staff at multiple levels and across many departments to exhibit exceptional teamwork qualities including communicating efficiently and effectively and adopting the behaviors required for high functioning integrated teams.
Compensation and Benefits Information:
The hourly wage for this opportunity is $22.50 to $31.75, with a median wage of $26.47/hour. Pay is dependent on several factors including relevant work experience, education, certification & licensure, and internal equity. Hourly pay is just one part of the compensation package for employees. Core Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Ensures lab and individual work area are regularly cleaned, inventory stocked and kept orderly to promote safe and efficient work area.
  • Utilize proper materials, equipment and methods in safe and efficient manner to complete projects to meet fabrication timelines.
  • Quality measures require seating fabrication to be functional, safe, cosmetically pleasing, and matching the fabrication criteria provided on the fabrication form following established standards.
  • Communicates professionally.
  • Communicates directly with seating practitioners to clarify information provided and/or lacking on fabrication form.
  • Meets Gillette's customer service expectations by providing prompt service to all customers in including patient, families and hospital staff.
  • Fosters a positive work environment characterized by a high level of acceptance, cooperation, embracing change and demonstrate willingness to find and learn ways to accomplish the work and make improvements.
  • Must be able to work proficiently with Gillette information systems for attaining information about equipment and patient.
  • Must be able to work proficiently with Gillette clinical information systems. Must complete documentation in an accurate, thorough, and timely manner.
  • Participates in activities that promote professional growth, ease of access, quality improvement and patient satisfaction.
  • Ability to understand and clearly work with all styles of manual and power wheelchairs.
  • Attend educational activities that parallel the equipment being fabricated.
  • Consistently interrupts fabrication sheet and fabricates to department standards.
  • Fabricates non-complex and custom contoured seating systems
  • Assist with wheelchair data base and wheelchair inventory
  • Has Knowledge of scheduling and daily work flow and can assist when needed.
  • Proficient in all areas of fabrication, with minimal supervision, minimal redo's and/or reworking, including all levels of complexity.
