What is a custom project manager?

Custom Project Managers are professionals who oversee and coordinate specialized projects tailored to a client's specific requirements. They manage the planning, execution, and completion of projects that do not follow a standard template, ensuring that client needs are met within budget and timeline constraints. These managers facilitate communication between clients, designers, engineers, and vendors to deliver customized solutions. Their responsibilities include resource allocation, risk management, and quality assurance throughout the project lifecycle.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a custom project manager?

To thrive as a Custom Project Manager, you need strong project management skills, industry-specific knowledge, and a relevant degree—often in business, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with project management software like MS Project, Asana, or Trello, as well as certifications such as PMP or PRINCE2, is typically required. Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities help you coordinate teams and maintain client satisfaction. These skills ensure that custom projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the client’s specifications.

How does a custom project manager typically navigate changing client requirements during a project?

Custom Project Managers frequently encounter evolving client needs, which require strong adaptability and proactive communication. They usually manage these changes by implementing structured change management processes, maintaining transparent documentation, and holding regular check-ins with both clients and internal teams. This ensures everyone remains aligned and that project goals are adjusted as necessary, while still adhering to deadlines and budget constraints. Building trust and demonstrating flexibility are key to delivering successful custom projects in dynamic environments.

Job description

About Nscale

Nscale is the GPU cloud engineered for AI. We provide cost-effective, high-performance infrastructure for AI start-ups and large enterprise customers. Nscale enables AI-focused companies to achieve superior results by reducing the complexity of AI development. Our GPU cloud bolsters technical capabilities and directly supports strategic business outcomes, including cost management, rapid innovation, and environmental responsibility.

We thrive on a culture of innovation, ownership, and accountability, where every team member takes pride in their work and drives it with excellence and focus. As an Nscaler, you'll build trust through openness and transparency, where everyone is inspired to do their best work. If you join our team, you'll be contributing to building the technology that powers the future.

About the Role

We are hiring a hands-on Procore Functional Lead to lead Procore's functional design and operation end to end. You will transition Procore from external system integrators and become the internal go-to expert on how it should work today and as we scale.

Your mandate is simple: make Procore a reliable system of record for our data centre construction and capital projects, integrated cleanly with NetSuite for cost control and with Foundry for portfolio visibility. This is a senior, high-impact role where you will simplify complexity, make clear decisions, and navigate differing views when needed.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Lead end-to-end project delivery from business requirements gathering through user testing and implementation.
  • Configure Procore across Project Management, Financial Management, Quality and Safety, and Resource Management.
  • Manage integrations with NetSuite, document management, scheduling tools, and Foundry.
  • Handle user management, project setup templates, and permission models.
  • Deliver custom workflows, reports, and dashboards.
  • Optimise Procore processes and configurations.
  • Support work across capital project delivery, commitments and change orders, RFIs and submittals, daily logs, and field operations.
  • Partner with Construction, Project Controls, Site Operations, Finance, Procurement, Legal, and internal system teams managing NetSuite, Foundry, and identity integrations.
Procore Functional Ownership
  • Take end-to-end functional ownership of Procore across Project Management, Project Financials, Quality and Safety, and Resource Management.
  • Be accountable for the clarity, reliability, and scalability of Procore as Nscale's construction and capital project system of record.
  • Own functional governance after go-live to prevent project template sprawl and uncontrolled customisation.
  • Ensure Procore remains a clean, trusted, and maintainable core system as Nscale scales its data centre build-out.
Functional Design and Simplification
  • Translate Nscale's project delivery operating model into simple, scalable Procore configurations that avoid unnecessary customisation.
  • Review, challenge, and rationalise existing system integrator designs to remove complexity and technical debt.
  • Define a minimum viable go-live and a phased roadmap that supports rapid scaling across multiple sites without over-engineering.
Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Act as the functional lead across Construction, Project Controls, Finance, Procurement, and Legal teams to align requirements and resolve trade-offs.
  • Drive consistent, well-understood project templates and processes that balance site-level flexibility with portfolio integrity.
ERP and Data Platform Integration
  • Work closely with Finance, data, and platform teams to define Procore's role as the capital project system of record within a broader data architecture.
  • Own the Procore to NetSuite integration for commitments, invoices, change orders, and budget actuals.
  • Help design clean, reliable project data models for downstream use in Palantir Foundry.
  • Make clear decisions on what functionality and data belong in Procore versus what should live in NetSuite or Foundry.
Go-Live and Stabilisation
  • Lead functional support for UAT, cutover, and post go-live stabilisation to ensure the system works in practice on live projects.
  • Resolve functional issues decisively and help site and finance users gain confidence in Procore.
About You
  • You have 7+ years of hands-on Procore experience, including multiple full-cycle implementations or major programme rollouts.
  • You bring strong construction and capital project fundamentals across commitments, change management, RFIs, submittals, and daily logs, with the ability to engage credibly with senior project and finance stakeholders.
  • You have demonstrable experience integrating Procore with ERPs, with NetSuite preferred, as well as document management and scheduling platforms.
  • You have experience in data centre, infrastructure, or other capital-intensive build environments.
  • You have a proven ability to simplify designs and avoid unnecessary complexity.
  • You communicate clearly with system integrators, vendors, and senior stakeholders and can raise concerns when needed.
  • You bring a forward-thinking mindset that sees Procore as part of a broader data and analytics architecture.
  • You have experience working alongside data platforms or analytics teams; curiosity about Palantir Foundry is a plus.
What We Can Offer You

At Nscale, you'll find a collaborative, supportive, and innovative environment where your contributions spark real impact. We're building something extraordinary, and we want you at the core.

  • Highly competitive package, including base salary and equity, with reviews every 12 months.
  • The chance to join a fast-growing tech startup, contribute to meaningful work, collaborate with talented colleagues, and help shape cutting-edge AI.
  • A progression plan tailored to your goals, with room to grow by trying new things, taking on new responsibilities, improving existing approaches, and seeing the impact of your work.
  • Human-first flexibility: we trust Nscalers to deliver and give you the autonomy to shape your day around life's moments.
Equal Opportunities Statement

We strongly encourage applications from people of colour, the LGBTQ+ community, people with disabilities, neurodivergent people, parents, careers, and people from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
