What is a custom paint?

A custom paint job refers to the process of applying unique colors, designs, or finishes to a surface, usually a vehicle, to achieve a personalized appearance. Unlike standard factory finishes, custom paint jobs can include special effects like metallic, pearlescent, or matte finishes, as well as graphics, murals, or detailed artwork. Custom paint is often used to express individual style or to restore and enhance classic or specialty vehicles. The process typically involves surface preparation, priming, painting, and clear coating for durability and shine.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a custom paint professional?

To thrive as a Custom Paint professional, you need expertise in surface preparation, color matching, and paint application techniques, typically gained through vocational training or apprenticeships. Familiarity with spray guns, airbrushes, paint mixing systems, and safety equipment is crucial. Attention to detail, creativity, and strong communication skills help deliver high-quality, customized finishes and meet client expectations. These skills ensure precise, durable, and visually appealing results that satisfy customers and uphold industry standards.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in custom paint roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in custom paint roles often encounter challenges such as achieving precise color matching, working with unique surfaces or materials, and managing client expectations for highly personalized finishes. These challenges can be addressed by staying up-to-date with the latest painting techniques, investing in quality tools and materials, and maintaining clear communication with clients throughout the project. Collaborating closely with team members—such as designers, project managers, and finishers—also helps ensure that the final product meets both technical and aesthetic standards.

Job description

About Us

Junk In Her Trunk is one of the most respected names in custom cabinet painting and fine finish woodwork in Northeast Florida. We pride ourselves on delivering flawless, factory-grade finishes and unmatched craftsmanship to our clients. Because our reputation is built on perfection, we are looking for a highly skilled, detail-oriented painter who takes immense pride in their trade to join our elite team.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced painter specializing in fine-detail finishing and HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) airless sprayers. In this role, you won't just be slapping paint on walls—you will be executing precision finishes on high-end cabinetry, built-ins, and architectural woodwork. If you have a sharp eye for detail, a steady hand, and a mastery of spray equipment, we want to talk to you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and clean HVLP sprayers and other professional spray equipment to achieve smooth, factory-like finishes.

  • Perform meticulous surface preparation, including masking, sanding, caulking, and filling imperfections.

  • Execute fine detail work with precision and clean lines.

  • Handle, mix, and apply specialized coatings (lacquers, primers, and fine enamels) according to product specifications.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace on-site and in the shop.

  • Represent the company professionally while interacting with residential clients.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: Proven experience as a professional painter with a heavy focus on fine finishing and spray application. Cabinet painting experience is a massive plus.

  • Equipment Mastery: Deep familiarity with setup, pressure adjustment, and troubleshooting of HVLP spray systems.

  • Detail-Oriented: A perfectionist attitude toward prep work, masking, and final inspections.

  • Transportation: Must have reliable, independent transportation to travel to various job sites across NE Florida.

  • Background Check: Must be able to successfully pass a standard background check.

  • Reliability: Strong work ethic, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a crew.

What We Offer

  • Competitive Pay: $20.00 to $26.00/hr, tightly aligned with your verified experience and skill level.

  • Great Work Environment: Work with top-tier materials and tools alongside a team that values high-quality craftsmanship.

  • Reputation: Build your portfolio with one of the region's most trusted premium finishing brands.

To Apply

If you have the skills to match our reputation, we want to hear from you. Please submit your resume along with a brief summary of your spraying and cabinetry experience. Photos of your recent fine-finish or cabinet work are highly encouraged!
