FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Wage: $15.00/hour
POSITION FOCUS
Responsible for performing a variety of routine maintenance and janitorial duties in the overall upkeep of the assigned facilities
SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the Park Superintendent/Park Supervisor or Assistant Supervisor
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
  • Clean and wash floors, walls and windows
  • Regularly check park grounds, parking lots, paths and play surfaces on a daily basis and perform routine tasks necessary to maintain a clean, safe outdoor environment including but not limited to, picking up litter and broken glass, checking playground for debris in playground surface, checking for uneven walking surfaces, and checking tennis courts for debris and net condition
  • Maintain cleanliness of restrooms (cleans toilets, sinks, mirrors, floor) and replenish supplies, as needed
  • Perform basic horticultural duties at assigned locations including, but not limited to, watering flowers and grass, and pulling weeds in flower beds
  • Empty wastebaskets and other trash
  • Sweep, wash, maintain, strip and wax floors, and vacuum carpets
  • Set up equipment for daily building activities and moves furniture and equipment, as needed
  • Request supplies as needed from the Park Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent
  • Store supplies and equipment properly and maintain cleanliness of the storage areas
  • Clean adjacent grounds of litter and sweep walks
  • Operate small engine powered equipment
  • Load, unload and deliver equipment and supplies, as needed
  • Attend work on a regular basis
  • Perform the job safely and in compliance with District policies, procedures, work and safety rules, and the employee handbook
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment
  • Additional functions as assigned which may be considered essential

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
  • Good knowledge of the standard practices of cleaning and custodial work
  • Good knowledge of the use and care of cleaning equipment
  • Basic knowledge of general building maintenance and repair
  • Good knowledge and skills in the use and maintenance of small power tools and equipment
  • Good knowledge of pertinent safety precautions

  • Ability to clean, make adjustments and perform routine maintenance on equipment
  • Capacity to safely dispose of various chemicals
  • Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with supervisors and coworkers
  • Ability to work around the general public and park patrons in public areas
  • Capacity to utilize effective time management skills to complete assigned work
  • Ability to follow through on projects from beginning to end without immediate supervision

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
  • Valid Illinois Class "D" Driver's License
  • 18 years or older

HOURS
  • Sunday through Saturday, 20 - 40 hours a week, with work hours designated by the Park Superintendent/Park Supervisor or Assistant Supervisor
  • Seasonal, normally March-October
  • Overtime, night, weekend and holiday work hours, as required
  • Employee is considered to be on duty whenever the need exists

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and gripping
  • Lifting up to 75 pounds with assistance and 50 pounds without assistance
  • General work area is outdoors, with frequent exposure to natural and potentially extreme weather conditions while performing job duties
  • Exposure to chemicals such as fertilizers, pesticides, cleaning solutions, solvents, petroleum products, etc
  • Exposure to mud, dirt, and dust
  • Potential exposure to infectious diseases while performing cleanups
  • Protective clothing and equipment is required as it pertains to the particular job duty:
    • Ear plugs or ear covers
