Curbside information

What are some of the main challenges faced by curbside associates, and how can they be managed effectively?

Curbside associates often face challenges such as managing high volumes of orders during peak hours, ensuring order accuracy, and maintaining efficient communication with both customers and in-store teams. To manage these effectively, it's important to stay organized, follow established procedures for order assembly, and use communication tools provided by the employer to coordinate with team members. Developing strong multitasking skills and remaining adaptable during busy periods can also help associates provide excellent customer service and keep operations running smoothly.

What is a curbside?

Curbside jobs typically refer to positions where employees assist with the pickup or delivery of goods at a designated curbside location, often for retail or grocery stores. Workers in these roles are responsible for bringing orders out to customers' vehicles, checking order accuracy, and providing excellent customer service. Curbside jobs became especially popular due to the increased demand for contactless shopping experiences. These positions may also involve some inventory management and communication with both customers and store staff. Depending on the employer, curbside jobs can be part-time or full-time roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a curbside associate?

To thrive as a Curbside Associate, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and basic retail or customer service experience. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, mobile order management apps, and barcode scanners is typically required. Excellent communication, time management, and a customer-focused attitude help you excel in fast-paced environments. These skills ensure efficient, accurate order fulfillment and a positive customer experience, which are crucial for store reputation and customer loyalty.

What does a curbside shopper do?

A curbside shopper is responsible for selecting and preparing online grocery or retail orders for customers. They typically work in stores or warehouses, using handheld devices or order lists to gather items efficiently and accurately for curbside pickup or delivery. Strong attention to detail and familiarity with store layouts or inventory systems are important skills for this role.

What is the difference between Curbside vs Delivery Driver?

AspectCurbsideDelivery Driver
CredentialsDriver's license, possibly a commercial licenseDriver's license, vehicle insurance
Work EnvironmentCustomer's curbside or designated pickup areaOn the road, delivering to customers' locations
Industry UsageRetail, restaurants, grocery storesFood, package, or goods delivery services
Common Search IntentHow to perform curbside pickupHow to become a delivery driver

While both roles involve driving and customer interaction, Curbside primarily focuses on assisting customers at designated pickup points, often within retail or restaurant settings. Delivery Drivers, on the other hand, transport goods directly to customers' locations. Understanding these differences helps job seekers find the right role based on work environment and responsibilities.

Job description

A Day in the Life:

Concierge Curbside Pickup is Hertz's premium pickup experience, providing seamless curbside delivery or self-service vehicle pickup through digital and mobile channels. Currently offered to Platinum members, the program is built to scale across additional customer segments and markets.

As part of the Consumer Experience team, you will lead key components of the end-to-end concierge journey, partnering with cross-functional teams to eliminate friction, improve service performance, and deliver a consistently exceptional customer experience.

The starting salary for this role is $150,000, commensurate with experience.

What You'll Do

  • You will set the Concierge curbside pickup vision, identify opportunities, and build customer-facing and service-enabled products that raise the bar for premium rental pickup
  • You will own the end-to-end roadmap across booking, preferences, pickup, during-rental support, returns, and service recovery, ensuring cross-channel continuity (web/app/agents/airport)
  • You will collaborate with stakeholders across UX, data science, BI, engineering, finance, legal, marketing, and operations to align on outcomes and deliver at scale
  • You will elevate instrumentation and analytics across the Concierge journey, including customer journey metrics and system performance (e.g. latency, uptime) as well as experience SLAs (e.g. wait time, fulfillment accuracy, resolution time)
  • You will monitor premium travel and luxury service trends, build strategies and business cases, gain buy-in with senior execs (VP, C-level), and drive adoption across markets

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or Master's degree preferred
  • 5+ years of product management experience leading customer-facing products through the full product lifecycle, with a proven track record delivering premium, high-touch experiences that drive measurable customer and business outcomes
  • Experience defining product strategy, managing roadmaps, prioritizing initiatives, and balancing complex trade-offs across digital, operational, and customer service environments
  • Strong customer-centric mindset with expertise in service design, journey mapping, identifying pain points, and developing effective service recovery solutions
  • Proven ability to influence and align cross-functional teams-including operations, field stakeholders, design, research, engineering, and customer support-without direct authority
  • Strong analytical skills with experience defining KPIs, measuring performance, analyzing funnels, and using experimentation and data to drive product decisions
  • Ability to contribute to technical discussions involving product architecture, APIs, integrations, reliability, and workflow/tool development; experience improving frontline operational tools is a plus
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated success influencing senior leaders, including VP- and C-level stakeholders
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity, making high-impact decisions, and maintaining a high standard of execution and customer experience

  • Medical, Dental & Vision plan options
  • Retirement programs, including 401(k) employer matching.
  • Paid Parental Leave & Adoption Assistance
