Medical Temporaries, Inc. is currently seeking an experienced Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) or CSAC-A
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience required - will also consider CSCAC candidates in Supervisee status
This is a Full-Time/TEMP TO HIRE position requiring availability between the hours of 9am-5pm Monday thru Friday (1 hr lunch break), located in Norfolk, VA 23504

Summary
The Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) provides substance use counseling services to adult clients in an outpatient treatment setting. This role includes individual and group counseling, ASAM assessments, treatment planning, care coordination, crisis intervention, and thorough documentation in compliance with Virginia DMAS regulations, HIPAA, and agency policies. The CSAC works collaboratively with the clinical team to support clients in achieving long-term recovery goals.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and group substance use counseling services to adults (18+) in an outpatient setting under appropriate clinical supervision.
  • Complete ASAM assessments at admission to determine DSM-5/ICD-10 diagnoses and appropriate ASAM Level of Care in collaboration with the Clinical Director.
  • Develop treatment plans, including:
    • Initial Individualized Service Plan (ISP) within 24 hours of assessment
    • Comprehensive ISP within 14 days
    • Ongoing updates based on client progress
  • Facilitate group counseling and educational sessions focused on recovery skills, relapse prevention, and peer support.
  • Identify high-risk clients and provide crisis intervention services as needed.
  • Coordinate care by connecting clients with community resources, referrals, and follow-up services.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation in the electronic health record in compliance with HIPAA and agency standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members through staff meetings, clinical supervision, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as an advocate for clients and assist with crisis resolution and continuity of care.
  • Uphold professional boundaries, ethical standards, and organizational policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and success of the program.
Requirements

Required:
  • Active CSAC credential or CSAC-A in Virginia
  • Experience providing individual and group counseling
  • Knowledge of substance use disorders, addiction recovery, relapse prevention, and trauma-informed care
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills
  • Strong Technology Skills
  • Must be able to pass a Drug Screen and Background check
Preferred:
  • Outpatient substance use treatment experience
  • Familiarity with EHR systems
  • Experience with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) programs
  • Experience coordinating care and community referrals
  • BLS/CPR is a bonus
