Job description

Position Summary

Acuren is currently recruiting for a Metallographer II to support our operations in New Castle, DE.THIS IS A HIGH VOLUME LAB SETTING MONDAY - FRIDAY 8 HOURS A DAY.

The Metallographer II independently performs a variety of metallographic examinations and analytical tasks to evaluate material characteristics and quality. Responsibilities include advanced specimen preparation, microstructure analysis using optical and digital microscopy, hardness testing, and image documentation. The Metallographer II interprets results, prepares technical reports, and may assist in failure analysis and material verification projects. This role also supports equipment calibration, process improvement, and mentoring of entry-level staff. A solid understanding of metallurgical principles, laboratory standards, and attention to detail are essential for success in this position.

Responsibilities
  • Conducts microscopic, macroscopic, and other tests and investigations on samples of metals and alloys for purposes as metallurgical control over products or use in developing new or improved grades and types of metals, alloys, or production methods: Helps laboratory personnel in preparing of samples, such as polishing or etching, and designates area of sample where microscopic or macroscopic examination is to be made.
  • Studies photomicrographs and performs microscopic examinations on samples to determine metal characteristics, such as crystal structure, porosity, and homogeneity.
  • Interprets findings and prepares drawings, charts, and graphs for inclusion in reports for reference or instruction purposes, and writes reports regarding findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Coordinates and participates in performing special tests, such as end-quench hardenability, bend and tensile, and grain size tests.
Requirements
  • Associates degree or two years of post-high school studies in relevant technical field.
  • Minimum 3 years in materials laboratory setting or materials-related field. Aerospace industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed technical specifications and drawings
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent English communication skills including correct basic grammar, spelling, punctuation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Keyboarding proficiency (40 wpm preferred).
  • Ability to safely carry out oral and written work instructions.
