Job description

About Us:
The Crypto Council for Innovation ("CCI") is a global alliance of industry leaders in the digital assets space with a mission to demonstrate the transformational promise of crypto and communicate its benefits to policymakers, regulators, and people around the globe.
Crypto has immense potential to spur international economic growth and create jobs, improve financial inclusion and access, and enhance privacy and security. By sharing insights and expertise about the global crypto ecosystem while addressing misperceptions and misinformation, CCI supports governments and institutions worldwide in efforts to shape and encourage the responsible regulation of crypto in a way that unlocks potential and improves lives.
The Opportunity:
We are looking to hire a motivated and passionate Regulatory Counsel, who will play a critical role in staying ahead of all regulatory developments impacting the digital asset industry while helping execute CCI's overall policy strategy. This role is ideal for a self-driven, collaborative legal professional who wants to be instrumental in shaping internal legal and policy initiatives, with a primary focus on regulatory issues related to our mission-driven work.
The Regulatory Counsel will work to strengthen the development and advancement of CCI's goals in the areas of regulatory, policy, and legal affairs. You will help develop policy and regulatory positions and papers, analyze regulatory and legal developments, craft comment letters and memoranda, and represent the organization's work to regulators in the U.S. You will work closely with our members and stakeholder community to educate regulators and policymakers and effectively advocate for member priorities.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Developing and advocating for policy and legal positions with federal regulators on a wide array of regulatory issues related to the digital asset industry, including, among others, market structure, trading, exchange operations, custody, payment stablecoins, staking, decentralized finance (DeFi), non-fungible tokens, tax, banking, securities, commodities, derivatives, and more
  • Conducting regulatory and legal research and analysis, synthesizing information in an easy-to-digest manner for internal leadership, CCI members, and other external audiences, highlighting key takeaways, potential implications, and recommended action items
  • Drafting comment letters, memoranda, briefing materials, policy reports and proposals, comments on regulations, formal correspondence, litigation materials, and more
  • Monitoring and comprehensively analyzing U.S. state and federal regulations, case law, guidance, rulemaking, and policies related to the digital assets and financial services industries, including identifying legal and regulatory issues and recommending clear solutions and advocacy positions
  • Coordinating and working closely with cross-functional colleagues, including the Government Affairs team, Policy Counsel, CCI Working Groups, and CCI members to determine needs, strategies, and policy goals
  • Assisting and participating in CCI engagement with U.S. state and federal regulators, policymakers, their staff, and other third party organizations and critical stakeholders

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited (U.S.) law school; current bar admission
  • Minimum 3 to 6 years of relevant practical experience at a law firm, in-house (at a regulated firm and/or in the digital assets industry), federal regulatory agency, Capitol Hill office or Committee, and/or government relations firm
  • Strong understanding of the digital asset or financial services industry and related market conditions and trends
  • Strong knowledge of current legal and regulatory aspects affecting digital assets and/or financial services
  • Knowledge of and experience with U.S. federal capital markets regulations (e.g., securities and/or commodities frameworks) and their application to digital assets and/or financial services
  • Exceptional research, analytical, written and verbal communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work across cultures and stakeholder communities
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-energy environment, with accountability to clear targets, deadlines, and outcomes; execution-focus with an ability to handle multiple priorities at once without compromising quality of work
  • Ability to work independently
  • A passion for crypto, humility, and eagerness for continuous learning
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves (no job is too big or too small)
  • The ability to travel as needed
