To thrive as a Crypto Developer, you need strong programming skills in languages like Solidity, Rust, or Go, along with a solid understanding of blockchain architecture and cryptography. Familiarity with smart contract platforms (e.g., Ethereum), version control systems (e.g., Git), and relevant certifications such as Certified Blockchain Developer is highly beneficial. Problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and effective communication are important soft skills for collaborating with diverse teams and ensuring secure code. These competencies are crucial for developing robust, secure, and innovative blockchain solutions in a rapidly evolving industry.

What are some common challenges faced by crypto developers when integrating blockchain solutions into existing systems?

Crypto developers often encounter challenges such as ensuring compatibility with legacy systems, managing security risks like smart contract vulnerabilities, and keeping up with rapidly evolving blockchain protocols. Collaboration with cross-functional teams—including backend engineers, cybersecurity specialists, and business analysts—is crucial to address these complexities. Additionally, developers must thoroughly test their solutions to maintain data integrity and comply with regulatory requirements, which can add to project timelines.

Senior Staff Engineer (Crypto/Web3) - Dragonfly Portfolio (New York)

Dragonfly

Manhattan, NY • On-site

Part-time

This job post has expired today. Applications are no longer accepted.

Job description

Dragonfly is a crypto‑native Venture Capital and research firm with $4B+ in assets under management and 160+ portfolio companies (see list). Our Talent team supports the recruiting efforts of the companies in our portfolio by connecting them with talented candidates. We have multiple companies actively hiring for Senior Staff and Principal Engineers across different domains—including protocol, infrastructure, full‑stack, and developer tooling.

This is not a listing for an internal role at Dragonfly. This posting is to connect you directly with one or more companies in our portfolio that are actively hiring Staff+- level engineers. If this description doesn’t match your background exactly, but you’re a senior crypto‑native engineer, we encourage you to apply—we may have other opportunities that are a better fit.

What We’re Looking For
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2+ years at the Staff or Principal level
  • Proven track record of building and shipping crypto‑native systems—whether protocols, infra, or full‑stack products
  • Deep expertise in system design, distributed systems, and production‑grade architecture
  • Experience mentoring engineers and leading cross‑functional technical initiatives
  • Strong comfort operating in high‑ambiguity, fast‑paced startup environments
  • Bonus: contributed to open‑source crypto projects or participated in core protocol engineering
About The Role(s)
  • Leading architecture and implementation of a new L1/L2, on‑chain product, or zero‑knowledge protocol
  • Building developer platforms, staking infra, or MEV‑aware systems at scale
  • Driving technical strategy and roadmap for teams shipping complex crypto systems
  • Mentoring engineers and establishing an engineering culture at the earliest stages
  • Working directly with founders and research teams to push forward novel mechanisms or primitives

Even if you don’t match every point above but are a Staff‑level engineer with real crypto experience, we encourage you to apply. There may be other opportunities that fit your skill set.

Process
  • We’ll confidentially match you with portfolio companies aligned with your background, skill set, and interests.
  • If mutual interest exists between you and a team, we’ll facilitate a warm introduction.
  • If there isn’t a match today, we’ll keep you top of mind for future opportunities.
  • All candidate submissions are strictly confidential.

Our portfolio companies are globally distributed and hire for remote, hybrid, and in‑person roles worldwide. They’re building across the entire crypto ecosystem, including DeFi, CeFi, infrastructure, L1s and L2s, creator/consumer applications, NFTs, ZK, Crypto x AI, and more.

Submit your information below, and we’ll be in touch if there’s a potential fit.
