Job description

JOB TITLE: SLI Casting Helper DEPARTMENT: Manufacturing

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE: The SLI Casting Helper position is responsible for maintaining correct lead levels in the melt pots, while periodically removing dross from the molten lead surfaces and maintaining cleanliness of the melt pots themselves. This helps the SLI Casting team meet production schedule demands. The SLI Casting Helper works within a fast-paced environment, and you will be expected to work well under pressure and have basic machine operation skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Is responsible for:
  • Understanding and following policies, procedures and instructions
  • Identifying and reporting product, process and quality system non-conformities to lead personnel
  • Controlling nonconforming products
  • Supporting implementation of corrective/preventive and improvement actions
  1. Upkeeping day-to-day housekeeping of the surrounding production floor area.
  2. Be able to identify various lead types by color and stamped identification.
  3. Is aware of activities in working surroundings such as:
    1. Assist operators in mold, ladle and trim die changeovers.
    2. Maintain lead pot full levels by filling with lead bars (pigs).
  4. Be familiar and compliant with the systems, procedures and documentation of the Crown Quality System and how it relates to this position and Crown quality objectives.

ACCOUNTABILITY: This position reports directly to the Production Supervisor.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Experience with safety and environmental training
  • Minimum 1 year manufacturing/factory experience preferred in a fast paced setting
  • Basic math and computer skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, supervision, and management
  • Familiar with inspection equipment, gauges, and measuring tools

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand/walk for 8-10 hours at a time. Bending, twisting, and turning. Full use of both hands to finger, handle, or fell objects, tools, or tooling; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel crouch or crawl; talk to hear. The employee must be able to lift or move up to 75 pounds frequently and in excess of 140 pounds infrequently. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must follow OSHA guidelines on respirator fit testing and proper wear. Will wear goggles or face shield at all times while in department.
