Position Summary:

A leading chemical manufacturing organization is seeking a results-driven Sales Representative to join its team, specializing in chemical treatment products, with a focus on crop-input products sold into the agricultural market, including retail co-ops, distributors, and large farming operations. The ideal candidate will expand customer relationships, identify new market opportunities, and provide agronomic and product guidance that supports the company's commitment to delivering high-quality, performance-driven ag chemicals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sales and territory Management:
    • Build, strengthen, and manage relationships with agricultural retailers, co-ops, distributors, and large growers.
    • Maintain a deep understanding of regional crop markets, farming practices, and customer needs.
    • Manage a defined sales territory across North Dakota or Montana with regular in-person visits.
  • Product Expertise:
    • Develop and maintain strong technical knowledge of surfactants, liquid and dry fertilizers, ammonia, and crop-input additives.
    • Provide product recommendations, application guidance, and technical support to customers and retail partners.
  • Business Development:
    • Identify, pursue, and secure new sales opportunities within assigned territory.
    • Represent the company at field days, grower meetings, trade shows, and agricultural industry events.
  • Quoting & Order Processing:
    • Prepare accurate pricing proposals and program quotes.
    • Work closely with logistics, operations, and supply chain teams to ensure timely product delivery, especially during peak seasons.
  • Market Monitoring:
    • Monitor regional crop conditions, competitive activity, product trends, and grower demand.
    • Provide regular feedback to management to support strategic planning and forecasting.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Partner with internal teams including procurement, operations, regulatory, and technical services to ensure a consistent customer experience.
    • Work with agronomists and field support specialists to coordinate demos, trials, and product testing.
  • CRM and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate territory records, customer interactions, and sales activity in the CRM system.
    • Report regularly on sales metrics, pipeline, market developments, and territory performance.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Business, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience considered.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of B2B sales experience, preferably in the agricultural chemicals, fertilizers, or crop inputs.
    • Experience with surfactants, adjuvants, fertilizers, or ammonia is a strong advantage.
    • Familiarity with agricultural supply chains, seasonal demand cycles, and chemical handling regulations is a plus.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM tools.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.

Certifications (Preferred):

  • Applicator license or familiarity with pesticide regulations (state-specific) is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of DOT, fertilizer handling, or ammonia safety certifications is a plus (e.g., HAZWOPER, OSHA, HAZMAT).

Working Conditions:

  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday; extended hours during planting and harvest seasons may be required.
  • Travel: Up to 50% within North Dakota or Montana for farm visits, retail meetings, and events.
  • Environment: Combination of office work and frequent field visits to farms, ag-retail locations, and storage/handling sites.
