Crop Scout Intern

About the Internship
Stutsman Crop Scout interns are given an opportunity to connect classroom agronomy knowledge to the field first-hand. The summer will consist of learning to identify weeds, diseases, and insects affecting crop growth and development. Scouts will gain experience testing soil and plant nutrients and analyzing reports used to make crop protection product recommendations with an experienced agronomist. In addition, our crop scout interns will complete miscellaneous operations-related work and provide customer service to growers. Throughout the internship, students will develop and strengthen their agronomy knowledge, communication skills, networking/collaboration, and problem-solving abilities. Ideal candidates would be actively pursuing either an associate or bachelor’s degree in an agricultural-related major or program.
Responsibilities
  • Work alongside company agronomists to utilize crop protection products, crop nutrient products, precision farming technology and agricultural knowledge to help growers satisfy their agronomy needs
  • Conduct regular field scouting to monitor crop health, growth stages, and disease issues
  • Collect, record and report agronomic data including but not limited to plant population, emergence and nutrient deficiencies
  • Assist agronomists with field trials, soil and tissue sampling
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to agronomy team
  • Complete an intern capstone project for presentation
  • Maintain accurate and timely records utilizing the ScoutPro application
  • Follow all safety protocols and maintenance of assigned equipment
Requirements
  • Attentive to details, self-motivated, and able to work without direct supervision
  • Reacts well under pressure and treats others with respect, courtesy and consideration
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds frequently, climb in and out of various types of vehicles/equipment, walk on uneven ground, and be willing to work outside in changing weather conditions
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background investigation
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the US as well as meet the position requirements in order to be considered for the position
