About the Team
The Business Technology Program Management Office (BT PMO) drives consistency, operational rigor, and delivery excellence across Workday's most important technology initiatives. We partner across engineering, infrastructure, security, and business platforms to ensure execution is connected to measurable results. As part of this mission, the BT PMO provides dedicated program management for the Infrastructure and Digital Employee Experience (DEX) portfolio. These programs are critical to shaping how Workmates interact with our internal technology ecosystem and ensuring our collaboration, productivity, and endpoint platforms are secure, scalable, and reliable.
About the Role
Workday is seeking a Principal Program Manager to lead complex, cross-functional programs in the Infrastructure and DEX portfolio. You will be a primary driver of execution for digital employee experience and infrastructure priorities, connecting strategy to outcomes across multiple teams and platforms. You will operate with a high degree of autonomy in planning, sequencing, and delivering programs that have executive visibility and long-term impact on how Workmates experience Workday technology every day. This role requires strong judgment in navigating technical tradeoffs, integrating diverse stakeholders, and maintaining clear, outcome-focused communication.
DEX & Infrastructure Execution:
  • Portfolio Leadership: Lead the planning and execution of high-impact programs across the Infrastructure and DEX portfolio, from initial definition through delivery and stabilization.
  • Strategy to Outcomes: Translate strategy, roadmaps, and OKRs into clear execution plans and project structures, including scope, milestones, dependencies, and success metrics.
  • Requirements & User Insight: Partner with stakeholders and end users to gather feedback, define requirements and user stories, and ensure solutions are grounded in the employee experience.
  • Governance & Change Management: Establish and run governance forums and operating rhythms, and drive change management plans (including communications) to support smooth adoption.
  • Risk, Budget & Dependency Management: Anticipate and manage cross-functional risks, dependencies, and budget/financial considerations, resolving issues before they impact delivery.
  • Stakeholder Orchestration: Build and maintain strong relationships across BT, Infrastructure, DEX, and business stakeholders to keep execution aligned with priorities.
  • Executive Communication: Provide concise, outcome-focused updates to senior leaders, simplifying complex program and technical details into clear narratives and choices.

About You
Basic Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of program management experience leading large-scale, cross-functional initiatives with measurable business outcomes.
  • 8+ years of professional experience in enterprise SaaS, cloud, infrastructure environments.
  • 8+ years of professional experience delivering complex technical or infrastructure programs that span multiple teams and systems.

Other Qualifications:
  • Ability to influence and align senior stakeholders across engineering, infrastructure, security, and business functions.
  • Skilled at executive communication and storytelling with data, with the ability to simplify complex technical topics and tradeoffs.
  • Comfort navigating data, integration, and infrastructure dependencies to make sound, long-term decisions.
  • Track record of mentoring or elevating other program and project managers, contributing to shared standards and best practices.
  • Highly adaptable and resilient; able to manage shifting priorities while maintaining a clear focus on outcomes and long-term impact.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Technology, Engineering, or Management.
  • Relevant certifications (PMP, PgMP, CSM, or equivalent) required, or equivalent demonstrable expertise in program management frameworks.

Our Approach to Flexible Work
With Flex Work, we're combining the best of both worlds: in-person time and remote. Our approach enables our teams to deepen connections, maintain a strong community, and do their best work. We know that flexibility can take shape in many ways, so rather than a number of required days in-office each week, we simply spend at least half (50%) of our time each quarter in the office or in the field with our customers, prospects, and partners (depending on role). This means you'll have the freedom to create a flexible schedule that caters to your business, team, and personal needs, while being intentional to make the most of time spent together. Those in our remote "home office" roles also have the opportunity to come together in our offices for important moments that matter.
Pursuant to applicable Fair Chance law, Workday will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
