Bio-Optics Engineer

Description

The Digital Healthcare business group seeks an optics engineer with extensive experience developing analytical systems for biological and biochemical applications. The Bio-Optics Engineer will drive the design and adaptation of a novel fluorescence imaging platform to multiple wide ranging analytical applications based on various client requirements. This platform can be customized with integrated circuits, light sources, and packaging to enable a unique performance/cost value proposition in a variety of biological, medical and pharmaceutical applications. The product family could play a critical role in adding an exciting new axis of exploration and measurement to a workhorse fluorescence metrology technology in the biomedical space.

The successful candidate will interact with clients and partners to develop a set of performance criteria and then lead the system adaptation to these criteria. They will need extensive experience with hands on design, building, and verification of optics based analytical systems for device performance evaluation. The candidate will use these systems to characterize the new optical platform performance, generating, analysing, and presenting evaluation data and results. Ability to work at the system level to understand interactions between optics, hardware and software is required.

The candidate must be self-motivated, self-directed, data driven in the decision-making process and creative in problem solving. The candidate must have excellent communication skills and a team-first mentality, as s/he will work with diverse colleagues across multiple geographic sites.

Roles & Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Work with clients and partners to develop performance criteria
  • Design and build customized optical characterization test systems for new platform characterization
  • Characterize new platform performance and lead performance improvement and redesign efforts
  • Carry out extensive data collection and analysis in support of platform characterization and improvements
  • Work with peers to prioritize and coordinate activities
  • Contribute to design improvements and IP generation

Qualifications & Requirements.

Required:

  • PhD or MS in Applied Physics or Optical Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in building and operating optical characterization systems
  • Expertise in automated experiment design and construction
  • Experience in automated data collection and analysis
  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills coupled with a demonstrated ability to work at a high level of performance both independently and in teams.
  • High levels of motivation and creativity, with an outgoing, positive attitude.
  • An inquisitive nature and willingness to tackle multiple disciplinary challenges.
  • Demonstrated record of innovation, execution, and results, with high standards for performance.
  • Python programming skills
  • Optical physics modelling experience
