Job description

  • Lead complex research projects aimed at studying cardiometabolic disease using techniques including, but not limited to protein biochemistry, recombinant protein production, structural biology, medicinal chemistry, CRISPR, genetic perturbation, and chemical biology.
  • Formulate and/or collaborate on developing new techniques and research methods, and develop independent research ideas.
  • Manage the laboratory, oversee daily operations of the projects, and supervise support personnel.
  • Maintain existing equipment for muscle structure and function studies and develop new methods and techniques. 
  • Evaluate the research lab needs for supplies, equipment, and new technologies. 
  • Responsible for data collection, data analysis, assemble figures and contribute to and author research publications. 
  • Participate in writing grant proposals and acquiring of pilot data.
  • Contribute to maintaining regulatory compliance, including writing and submitting IACUC and IRB protocols.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and writing skills for manuscript, grant submissions, publications, federal annual reports, and lab meetings.
  • Willingness to independently learn new scientific technical skills.
  • Skill in public speaking and presenting complex information to groups of scientists, specialists and non-specialists.
  • Ability to independently plan, execute, and interpret experiments in biochemistry and life sciences.
