They often focus on true crime stories, fictional crime narratives, or investigative articles. Remote crime writers use digital communication tools to collaborate with editors, publishers, or media outlets, and are responsible for meeting deadlines and maintaining accuracy. This role requires strong research skills, attention to detail, and the ability to create engaging, compelling stories that inform or entertain readers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote crime writer?

To thrive as a remote Crime Writer, you need strong storytelling abilities, research skills, and a solid grasp of crime genre conventions, often supported by a background in journalism, creative writing, or English. Attention to detail, self-motivation, and the ability to meet deadlines are crucial soft skills for success in a remote setting. These skills and qualities ensure accurate, engaging writing and effective independent work, which are vital for producing compelling crime stories remotely.

What are some common challenges remote crime writers face when collaborating with editors and publishers?

Remote crime writers often encounter challenges related to communication and feedback, as working virtually can lead to delays in editorial responses and less immediate input on story direction. Establishing clear deadlines and regular check-ins with editors can help mitigate misunderstandings and keep projects on track. Additionally, remote crime writers must be proactive in seeking out opportunities for networking and professional development, as they may not have in-person access to industry events or peer support. Utilizing digital collaboration tools and maintaining a disciplined writing schedule are key strategies for success in this environment.

Job description

Sales National Account Manager

SafeStreets USA  |  Remote (U.S.)  |  Full-Time  |  Some travel required

SafeStreets USA is dedicated to creating safer, stronger communities across the country. As a Sales National Account Manager, you’ll be the face of SafeStreets to enterprise and multi-site businesses: opening new national accounts, building relationships with senior decision makers, and growing those accounts over the long term.

This is a consultative, strategic sales role with longer cycles, bigger deals, and real ownership of your book of business. You’ll work remotely, report directly to our Director of National Accounts, and have visibility all the way up to the SVP level.

Join a 1,000-member team where innovation, integrity, and community impact drive everything we do.

What you’ll do

  • Prospect and open new national accounts, bringing in new logos across commercial and multi-site verticals
  • Build and maintain a qualified national account pipeline aligned to revenue targets
  • Schedule and lead strategic meetings with enterprise-level decision makers
  • Develop and advance consultative proposals through a longer, complex sales cycle
  • Sell security products and services that generate both Install Revenue (IR) and Recurring Monthly Revenue (RMR)
  • Own account relationships after the win, driving retention, expansion, and long-term revenue growth
  • Tailor account penetration strategy to the size and complexity of each opportunity
  • Maintain accurate forecasting and pipeline reporting in Salesforce, reviewed weekly, monthly, and annually with your Director and SVP
  • Represent SafeStreets at industry trade shows, customer events, and on-site client meetings

What success looks like

In your first year, you’ll achieve a ramped quota for Recurring Monthly Revenue (RMR) and Install Revenue (IR) as outlined in the annual compensation plan. Beyond the number, success means a healthy, well-documented pipeline, strong relationships with enterprise stakeholders, and accounts that grow year over year.

What you’ll bring

Required

  • A background in security sales and/or business-to-business sales experience
  • Proven ability to sell consultatively to enterprise or multi-site decision makers
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting to senior stakeholders
  • Self-motivation and discipline to work effectively from a home office
  • A collaborative approach: you work well within a team even in a remote role
  • Willingness and ability to travel. Some travel is required for this role, including trade shows, industry events, and on-site customer meetings
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and able to pass a criminal background check

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with security and life-safety platforms, monitoring, or connected-home/commercial technology
  • Experience carrying and hitting a new-logo acquisition quota
  • Current rolodex and relationships with prospective partners in the security space

Compensation and benefits

Total compensation: $60,000 to $80,000 base salary (DPE) plus an aggressive commission structure focused on company growth. Typical earnings for this role range between $120,000-$350,000+. Where you land in that range depends on the accounts you win and the revenue you generate.

Benefits include:

  • HSA-eligible medical coverage
  • Dental and vision coverage
  • Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • 401(k) w/ 4% company match
  • Paid time off
  • Car allowance
  • Cell reimbursement
  • Monthly earnings guarantee period (3-6mo)

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and any additional security clearances or licenses required for the role, including applicable state licensing requirements.
