Tool Crib Attendant

Industry: Manufacturing / Fasteners / Industrial Production

Job Category: Tool Crib / Inventory / Production Support

Job Type: Full-Time, Onsite

Shift: 2nd Shift, 2 PM–10 PM

About the Opportunity

A leading manufacturing operation is seeking a Tool Crib Attendant to support tooling inventory, production changeovers, and day-to-day operations within a fast-paced industrial environment.

This position plays an important role in keeping Cold Heading and Thread Rolling operations running efficiently. You’ll be responsible for receiving, organizing, inspecting, issuing, and tracking tooling through a Kardex automated storage system while working closely with machine operators, production leadership, and other departments to ensure the right tooling is available when it is needed.

The ideal candidate is organized, mechanically inclined, comfortable working with inventory and computer systems, and able to balance planned responsibilities with urgent production needs. Experience with SAP, Kardex, tooling, machining, manufacturing inventory, or similar environments is valuable, but training will be provided on company-specific systems and processes.

What You’ll Do

  • Receive tools and dies and accurately load them into the Kardex automated storage system
  • Prepare tooling sets and supporting documentation for Cold Heading and Thread Rolling machine operators
  • Issue tooling to operators and properly process returned tooling
  • Visually inspect returned tooling for cracks, defects, excessive wear, or damage
  • Work directly with machine operators to quickly retrieve replacement tooling and minimize production downtime
  • Assist operators in identifying substitute tooling when specific or unlisted part numbers are unavailable
  • Maintain accurate tool crib inventory and correct discrepancies as they are identified
  • Audit inventory, organize storage areas, and maintain strong stockkeeping practices
  • Monitor tooling usage and identify low-stock or emerging tooling needs
  • Communicate inventory and tooling concerns to production management
  • Use SAP tooling analysis to support inventory planning and purchasing
  • Prepare Excel spreadsheets detailing tooling requirements and orders for management review
  • Request and manage tooling quotes from suppliers
  • Create purchase requisitions for future purchase orders
  • Create and maintain supplier and tooling information records
  • Collect and enter data related to new or experimental tooling
  • Package and ship tooling to suppliers for repair or reworking
  • Assist with production paperwork for Heading and Rolling operations, including production pages and trace cards
  • Train new and existing employees on production paperwork, Kardex, SAP, tooling procedures, and related systems
  • Perform daily plant walkthroughs and communicate relevant findings to management
  • Clean, inspect, assemble, and disassemble die sets using basic hand tools and a small hydraulic press after training
  • Measure tooling and components using digital calipers
  • Support proper tooling setup, storage, inventory control, and production changeovers
  • Perform additional production and tool crib duties as assigned

What You Bring

  • Previous experience in manufacturing, tool crib operations, inventory control, machining, production support, maintenance, warehousing, or a related environment is preferred
  • Experience with polishing wheels, grinders, lathes and similar equipment
  • Degree in business or a job-related field is preferred, but equivalent hands-on experience will be considered
  • Basic computer proficiency, including regular use of Microsoft Excel and Outlook
  • Experience with SAP, Kardex, ERP, MRP, inventory management, or automated storage systems is a plus
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn tooling inspection and die-set handling
  • Ability to visually identify tooling cracks, wear, damage, and other obvious defects
  • Ability to develop sound judgment regarding when tooling should be repaired or replaced
  • Ability to use digital calipers and perform basic dimensional measurements
  • Ability to read and correctly interpret charts, tables, technical information, and simple mechanical drawings
  • Strong organizational and inventory-management skills
  • Ability to shift priorities when urgent production needs arise and return to planned work afterward
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with machine operators, production leadership, suppliers, and other departments
  • Willingness to learn Kardex Power-Pick, Teamcenter, SAP, and other company-specific systems
  • Willingness to learn new manufacturing processes and continue developing technical knowledge
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment where minimizing downtime is a priority

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to regularly work within an active industrial manufacturing environment
  • Comfortable working around loud machinery, forklift traffic, oil, and other normal manufacturing-floor conditions
  • Willingness to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety-toe footwear
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to walk throughout the manufacturing facility as part of regular responsibilities
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond quickly to urgent tooling and production needs

What’s Offered

  • Weekly pay
  • BCBS medical coverage
  • Enhanced retirement benefits, including a 401(k) contribution increasing from 3% to 5%
  • Life insurance coverage
  • 9 paid holidays
  • 30-minute paid lunch
  • Additional paid break time
  • Front-loaded ESTA time for eligible employees
