Commercial Credit Internship - Summer 2027 - Charlotte

General Function:

The Early Career Intern provides support as directed through assignments within a line of business or division while receiving exposure to the broader organization. Interns integrate into the organization through day-to-day activities and project work. Interns operate as team members on larger initiatives, but also work independently on smaller projects and tasks.

Responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and personally following policies and procedures as defined. Accountable for always doing the right thing for customers and colleagues, and ensures that actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience. While operating within the Bank's risk appetite, achieves results by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform assignments and projects as determined by leadership.
  • Utilize project management skills to manage and report on assignment and project status.
  • Build a network of contacts within assigned line of business or division as well as across the organization.
  • Effectively communicate with others, demonstrating strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Complete assigned coursework and participate in self-learning.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
  • Can complete the credit underwriting process on their own with some revision / oversight
  • Demonstrate ability to assess credit risk using financial statement analysis, cash flow analysis, industry analysis, collateral analysis, guarantor analysis and loan structure analysis via Credit Authorization Memo.
  • Monitor covenant completion and track past due or out of compliance covenants and recommend appropriate course of action
  • Accountable for updating financial covenants as needed
  • Run Probability of Default (PD) model with oversight
  • Partner with Portfolio Managers, supporting the daily duties of underwriting and monitoring credit while performing analytical tasks as needed
  • Responsible for understanding and evaluating completed spreads to determine necessary edits working in collaboration with the CCU team.
  • Responsible for identifying and recommending preliminary portfolio management actions using Credit Service reporting and RADAR with some oversight
  • Create high-impact presentation materials using PowerPoint, Excel, Word and other relevant software programs.
  • Understand and utilize complex financial models to build projections
  • Handle special assignments/projects as assigned by department managers.
  • Build an extensive network of contacts within Commercial and supporting divisions.
  • Attend formal training classes, complete all assigned eLearning courses and participate in extensive self-learning.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Pursuing bachelor's degree with strong financial or business background
  • Graduation date between December 2027 - May 2028
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA required
  • Excellent presentation skills, both oral and written
  • Strong analytical skills and an interest in financial analysis, corporate finance and financial markets
  • Good working knowledge of financial modeling and valuation
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to draw conclusions based on financial data.
  • Strong presentation and organization skills.
  • Process orientation and attention to detail
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based immigration sponsorship now or in the future.
