Job Summary:
A Safety Technician helps develop and execute the safety component of an Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) program. This involves administrative and field tasks per established industry practices, procedures, and regulatory and Bechtel requirements. The position requires practical application of occupational safety and related disciplines for managing safety and health aspects of a project or facility. The position reports to an ES&H Manager, or safety or health professional.
Major Responsibilities:
Assists safety and health professionals in developing and implementing a Safety and Health Management Plan, and related plans and studies.
Provides technical guidance and instruction to field personnel and subcontractors regarding safety and health requirements and related tasks inclusive of job hazard analysis, field level hazard assessment, hazard communication, and site inspection.
Prepares training documents and gives training presentations.
Performs monitoring and inspections to confirm compliance with contract, regulatory, and Bechtel requirements.
Prepares data summaries, written reports, and other documentation for program management.
Participates in emergency response and incident investigation and resolution when warranted.
Assists in the selection and deployment of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Assists in the development and updating of risk assessments for safety and health hazards.
Assists other team members in ES&H program execution.
Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities
Education and Experience Requirements:
An Associate's degree (or equivalent technical training) in a science discipline related to environmental, safety, or health from an accredited university or college; or 2 or more years of relevant experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Ability to research and comprehend organizational and regulatory requirements.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Computer skills for preparing presentations, data management, and report preparation.
Analytical skills related to sampling, monitoring, and recordkeeping.
Adaptable and able to work outdoors in a field environment under various weather conditions.
Ability to support multiple work shifts, as needed, and a wide range of tasks.
Valid driver's license.
Additional Qualifications:
Demonstrated interest, training, and experience in applied sciences.
Knowledge and experience with ISO 45001 Management System standards.
Prior work experience related to occupational health and safety.
