Job description

About the Role:

This role supports the efforts of Credit Risk Administration in maintaining sound and effective management of the Bank's credit exposures by providing a robust Dual Risk Rating (DRR) system. Responsibilities include development and maintenance of risk rating scorecards including statistical models for assigned portfolios, development and production of complex reports and related data flows, frontline partner support, relevant credit policy support, and adherence to the Bank's Credit Risk Management policies and regulations. This position may provide leadership for other Credit Risk Analysts within the unit and be responsible for assigning work and resolving problems.

  • Develop and maintain PD and LGD risk rating scorecard models for assigned portfolios including statistical quantitative, qualitative, and combined scoring methodology.

  • Support the maintenance of the Bank's PD and LGD Master Rating Scales.

  • Design and develop risk rating reports and analytical dashboards for various audiences using BI tools with complex and large data sets.

  • Support frontline lending partners by contributing research and commentary to risk rating modeling discussions for complex and sizable borrowers. Act as a subject matter expert for systems procedural matters affecting operations.

  • Complete and maintain model documentation for assigned models. Work with Model Risk Management to ensure models are validated and remediate any findings.

  • Develop and perform ongoing model monitoring tests and procedures evaluating the continued validity of assigned models. Recommend changes to models as needed.

  • Develop data flows necessary to facilitate model testing, research, and reporting. Collaborate with internal partners for database development as needed.

  • Collaborate with various departments and project teams to maintain effective controls and efficient risk rating functionality.

  • Recommend credit policy changes related to risk rating practices of assigned portfolios. Assist with writing relevant credit policy as needed.

  • Present relevant subject matter to senior management and other interested parties including various bank personnel and regulators.

  • May function as a team leader responsible for assigning work and resolving problems.

  • May be asked to coach, mentor and/or train others and teach coursework as a subject matter expert.

  • Demonstrate compliance with all bank regulations for assigned job function and applies to designated job responsibilities - knowledge may be gained through coursework and on-the-job training. Keeps up to date on regulation changes. Follows all Bank policies, procedures and compliance regulations. Completes all required annual or job-specific training. Actively learns, demonstrates, and fosters the Umpqua corporate culture in all actions and words. Takes personal initiative and is a positive example for others to emulate.

About You:

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in finance, economics, business, accounting or related field required.

  • Advanced degree and/or related certification in the same is preferred.

Experience

  • 4-7 years of credit risk-related experience with Commercial & Industrial or Commercial Real Estate loan types.

  • Commercial underwriting or lending experience is preferred.

Skills

  • Proficient understanding of credit concepts, common lending and loan monitoring practices, and underwriting techniques for Commercial & Industrial or Commercial Real Estate credit types.

  • Proficient understanding of databases, queries, data flows, and related systems. Must demonstrate proficiency with writing SQL.

  • Proficient understanding of statistics and predictive modeling techniques. Experience with credit risk models and/or relevant industry certifications is preferred.

  • Proficient with personal computers, MS Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business systems. Advanced skill in Excel and functional familiarity with other BI technologies is required. Experience with PowerBI or R are preferred.

  • Ability to review, manipulate and analyze complex and large data sets.

  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks successfully, be detail oriented and operate under scheduled deadlines.

  • Possess aptitude for learning technical skills and concepts quickly.

The pay range for this role is $90,000 to $120,000

The pay rate for the selected candidate is dependent upon a variety of non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, education, and geographic location. The role may be eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, and those details will be provided during the recruitment process.
