Job Description
The Department of Exercise Science is seeking a highly qualified individual to work as a Postdoctoral Researcher under the mentorship of Dr. Jason DeFreitas in the Neural Health Research Laboratory. The lab's primary focus is on sensory-motor control, aging, neuromuscular performance, and interventions to reduce fall risk, such as strength training. The lab is equipped with repetitive TMS, neuronavigation, fNIRS brain imaging, multiple EMG systems, an electrical stimulator for nerve conduction studies, ultrasound, a balance platform and more. The primary responsibilities include: 1.) assisting with Dr. DeFreitas' active research (40%), which includes clinical trial coordination, recruitment, collecting and analyzing data, publishing, and assisting with the training of student researchers. 2.) grant writing (40%); the individual will assist Dr. DeFreitas in the writing and submitting of grant proposals. 3.) Autonomous Research - the individual will also have time reserved to use lab resources to pursue their own research agenda (15%), and 4.) other duties as assigned (5%). Preference will be given to candidates that have experience conducting motor-related TMS or fNIRS studies, have programming/coding skills (e.g. Matlab, Python), and are quality scientific writers. Funding is available for up to two years, with renewal for year two based upon performance in year one.
This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200United.
Qualifications
  • Preference will be given to candidates that have experience conducting motor-related TMS or fNIRS studies.
  • Minimum Qualifications: a PhD in Neuroscience, Exercise Physiology, Rehabilitation Sciences, or a related field.
