Description
The Camp Activity Specialist (Arts & Crafts (STEAM) Specialist) plays a vital role in creating a safe, fun, and inclusive camp environment for children. These seasonal positions leads specialized activities both indoors and outdoors across a variety of disciplines, engages campers in hands-on learning, skill-building, and creative exploration while supporting the YMCA's mission to strengthen communities and foster personal growth.
Specialty Areas:
  • Arts & Crafts (STEAM) Specialist: Leads creative projects and STEAM-based activities that inspire campers to explore and express their creativity.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, lead, and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate activities in assigned specialty areas.
  • Ensure a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all campers.
  • Foster creativity, teamwork, and positive interactions among campers and staff.
  • Follow YMCA policies, procedures, and safety guidelines for all activities, including outdoor programs.
  • Collaborate with fellow counselors and camp leadership to enhance the overall camp experience.
  • Communicate effectively with campers, families, and camp staff regarding activity goals, schedules, and camper progress.

Requirements
  • Experience working with children or leading activities in a camp, educational, or recreational setting.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to plan and facilitate safe, engaging indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Positive role model with adaptability, creativity, and a strong commitment to youth development.
  • Must be safety-conscious and able to respond quickly in emergencies.
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certifications or willingness to obtain before camp.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods and lift up to 25-50 lbs as needed.
  • Completion of all required trainings prior to the start of camp.
