Job description

Agency:
McCann
Job Function:
Creative
Job Subfunction:
Creative Direction
Job Description:
Gotham is looking for a Creative Director, Copy to join our creative team while we evolve as the industry's most formidable boutique agency, backed by the McCann network.
As the CD Copy, you are a respected creative voice of the agency who will successfully lead your team to creative excellence and business growth. At the core, you are a creative storyteller, with sharp instincts and a clean delivery that sells, delights and pushes creative limits in even the most traditional of spaces. You know how to own a room and a conversation while ensuring everyone is heard and seen. Most importantly, you know how to make the complex simple and the culture authentic in everything you touch.
In the CD role, you'll lead copy for world renowned CPG brands in the beauty space and guide a team of writers. You'll forge trusted partnerships with our clients, and partner closely with them to push the work forward, solve problems, and overcome challenges with confidence and finesse.
You're more than comfortable at being hands-on throughout the creative process, from ideation through execution - you don't hesitate to jump in and get your hands dirty when needed, translating complex briefs into simple, witty headlines one day and solving an emotional brand manifesto the next. You're a true advocate for your team, and a leader inspires everyone around you to beat their best.
Your creative approach is forward-thinking, with a clear love of craft, and an authentic interest in beauty, modern luxury, fashion, and global culture - and you have the working expertise of a creative leader who knows how to effectively weave this into your work. In short, you know your stuff and are ready to bring people along to make impactful work.
What you'll do:
  • Partner with Creative, Business Leadership and Strategy to translate creative briefs and develop thoughtful, conceptual, integrated campaigns inclusive of film, print and social
  • Lead and participate in discussions regarding brand behaviors, knowing when to adjust the tone of voice and visual approach as needed
  • Actively present ideas, layouts, scripts, and storyboards to internal teams, partnering with account and client leads on new projects
  • Carry projects from initial creative concept through execution and release
  • Creatively lead on-set production for film, print and social in collaboration with production and post-production partners
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while keeping agency leadership updated on progress
  • Work closely with key stakeholders to ensure all creative deliverables are executed on time and in budget

What we're looking for:
  • 12+ years of copy-focused, creative direction experience - most recent 2+ years in a leadership role within an agency setting and preferably with well-known, consumer-facing brands and top-caliber talent
  • Creative portfolio showcasing produced work with a refined point of view, flexes in tone of voice, media/platforms, and style
  • Innate interest in the craft of writing, storytelling, and the medium of advertising
  • Clear and elevated sense of style and craft, high taste level, and forward-thinking mindset - a thoughtful bias towards details balanced with big picture conceptual skills
  • A deep well of category and industry knowledge inclusive of trends, competitors, and social and digital culture
  • Autonomous self-starter who is successful at managing multiple projects without swirl and comfortable with pivots and tight timelines
  • Proven history of leading and motivating teams to create their best work
  • Proactive and collaborative approach - you love working with people and people love working with you
  • Steady ability to nurture, inspire, and challenge everyone around them with equal parts expectation and empathy
  • Clear perspective with equally impactful presentation skills and communication style, both written and verbal

The salary range for this position is $180,000-200,000.
