the mission to empower boys and young men, ages 7 to 21, by providing effective programs and a
supportive community. BCNY provides evidence-based programs to address the evolving social,
emotional, health, creative, educational, and vocational needs of our members in meaningful, lasting
ways. BCNY develops programs to cultivate positive qualities in members and strives to continually
deepen and broaden our impact.


Job Summary
The Education Director will be responsible for the development, management, and evaluation of all
Clubhouse education programs with a particular emphasis on programs and activities designed to
help promote and foster academic growth in clubhouse members ages 6-20. Play a leadership role
as team member of the Clubhouse management group, ensuring familiarity with all program and
administrative responsibilities.


Responsibilities
Administer all core education programs encompassing academic support through learning centers,
tutoring, READ, STEM Programming, Homework Help and more. Facilitate programs and
outreach related to BCNY’s Gardiner School and Independent School Placement (ISP) programs.
Structure and lead long- and short-term program development for the STEM Lab, Learning Center
and other related education programs.


? Responsible for sharing in community outreach to include local schools, youth development
programs, and area colleges and universities.
? Assume responsibility for hiring, training and evaluating all full-time and part-time education
staff and training active core group of volunteers.
? Recruit and retain membership in educational programs and workshops, communicating with
parents as necessary and ensuring that schedules and lesson plans are effective and practical to
Clubhouse’s needs.
? Oversee diagnostics and evaluation for all educational programs, including READ, tutoring and
Summer Superheroes.
? Proactively monitor programs, delivery and progress to maintain or improve quality, address
issues and employ recommendations.
? Participate in area and regional conferences that focus on youth development relative to the
educational needs of the BCNY membership.
? Stay current with federal, state and local educational issues, public school standards and specific
NYC School District requirements and procedures.
? Attend all staff meetings; produce reports as requested compiling a comprehensive review of
specific data and trends supported by a concrete analysis of member use and attendance, staff
development, program performance using measured outcomes.
? Oversee and control the Clubhouse Education Program budget, approving and authorizing all
related expenditures.
? Work closely with all other Department Heads ensuring that BCNY’s mission relative to
education is being realized in each program area.
? Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of a group of 10-21 boys (ages 7-9 or 10-12)
Qualifications


Master’s degree in Education preferred with a minimum of two year experience as a classroom
teacher, school administrator or manager in a youth development organization; Demonstrated
leadership ability; Strong verbal and written communication skills; Advocacy for youth; ability to
communicate effectively with parents and professionals; Creative program developer with
curriculum and program implementation experience; Drive and enthusiasm to achieve realistic
goals for education programs; Strong team-building, consultation and facilitation skills; History
of working with economically and educationally disadvantaged youth with a sound
understanding of the social and cultural issues facing urban families; Strong organizational and
long-term planning skills and a sense of self-efficacy; Willingness to work a flexible and
demanding schedule.
