Head Start Teacher
Location: Harrison Elementary School
Job Type: Full-Time, Part-Year position
Pay: $22.52 per hour
Job Summary
The Head Start Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment for children ages 3-5. This role involves implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum that promotes cognitive, social, emotional, and physical growth. The Head Start Teacher maintains a positive classroom atmosphere, manages behavior, and ensures that all safety and health standards are met.
Key Responsibilities
  • Create a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment for preschool-aged children.
  • Plan and implement lessons using Creative Curriculum and School Readiness Goals.
  • Support children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
  • Maintain active supervision and ensure classroom safety at all times.
  • Complete lesson plans, assessments, observations, and required documentation accurately and on time.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding attendance, progress, and program activities.
  • Conduct two home visits and two parent-teacher conferences per family each school year.
  • Use Conscious Discipline strategies to support positive behavior and individual needs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant classroom environment.
  • Participate in professional development, coaching, and classroom observations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), OR:
    • Related degree with at least 26 ECE credits and two years of experience working with children ages 3-5, OR:
    • Associate degree in ECE with commitment to begin progress toward a bachelor's degree within two years of hire.
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices for preschool-aged children.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and computer skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Professional, respectful, and positive attitude.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be physically able to lift up to 40 lbs., sit on the floor, and perform frequent movement.
  • Valid driver's license, current auto insurance, dependable transportation, and willingness to transport families if needed.
