Their responsibilities often include brainstorming ideas, assisting in the development of concepts for campaigns or content, and collaborating with designers, writers, and other creative team members. Creative Associates may also help with project coordination, research, and various administrative tasks related to creative production. This role is ideal for individuals with strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, as well as a passion for creative work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a creative associate?

To thrive as a Creative Associate, you need a strong background in graphic design, copywriting, and multimedia production, often supported by a relevant degree or portfolio. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, content management systems, and digital marketing tools is typically required. Creativity, collaboration, adaptability, and strong communication skills help individuals excel in this role. These skills are essential for producing engaging content, meeting client expectations, and contributing effectively to dynamic creative teams.

How does a creative associate typically collaborate with other departments during a project?

Creative Associates often work closely with teams such as marketing, product development, and sales to ensure that creative concepts align with overall business objectives. They participate in brainstorming sessions, gather input from stakeholders, and adjust designs or content based on feedback from these departments. This collaborative approach helps to maintain consistency across campaigns and ensures that the final deliverables effectively support the company’s goals.

How do you become a creative associate?

To become a creative associate, candidates typically need a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as graphic design, marketing, or communications, along with strong creative skills and proficiency in tools like Adobe Creative Suite. Job description

Summary

The ACD at iU is design‑minded and writing‑capable. Looking at a visual system and having something real and useful to say about it. Sitting down and writing — a concept, a script, a brief that actually inspires people — and it’s good. Those are the same instinct working in different directions, and exactly what we’re looking for.

Some experience with events or live experiences matters here. Could be leading creative for an activation or getting pulled into show development and being inspired to do more. An understanding that events are their own storytelling platform, and one of the most powerful ones we have.

The people who do well at iU tend to come from places where the work meant something, the teams were lean, and figuring it out in real time was just part of the job. That kind of background shapes people in ways that show up here.

What You'll Do
  • Lead and contribute to creative development across content, campaigns, experiences, and events— from early concept through delivery.

  • Build visual concepts and creative directions. Put something on the page that orients a team and gets a partner excited.

  • Write when it’s needed (and it will be needed). Concept statements, scripts, briefs, pitch copy.

  • Work closely with project leads, designers, and writers, bringing real thinking to partner challenges from the jump.

  • Contribute to and shape pitches and new business, helping shape how iU shows up and what we put forward.

  • Bring a point of view. Ask the question that moves the work. Push back when something isn’t landing. Speak up and inspire others to do the same.

  • Genuinely curious about the people we make work for — universities, health systems, nonprofits, sports and cultural organizations. Ensure that curiosity lives inside the work itself.

  • Able to use AI to go deeper and faster. Never as a replacement for original thinking or the human insight that makes work actually matter.

  • Show up for the team, the partner, the work. Model what creative ownership looks like without making it a performance.

What We'll Love About You
  • Creative experience somewhere in the 4–6 year range, with real work to show for it.

  • Portfolio demonstrating both design and conceptual thinking across campaigns, content, and/or experiences.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign. Keynote for pitches, presentations, and event programming. Bonus if you work in Figma as well.

  • Ability to lead and contribute to ideation. Generating original concepts, facilitating creative exploration, and moving ideas from spark to direction.

  • Strong design instincts and solid writing ability. Probably a lean in one direction but able to work credibly in both.

  • Drawn to experiential and live work. Regularly thinking about how things feel in a room, not just how they look on a screen.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity. At iU, things evolve, the teams are flexible and collaborative, and the best creative usually comes from figuring it out together. This is part of our culture.

  • Invested in work that means something. Our partners are looking to us to help them tell stories (across mediums) that move people. This requires showing up consistently with the mindset and passion to match.

  • Collaborative without being passive. Able to hold a creative perspective, move it forward, advocate for it, and know when to let it go.

  • In Atlanta, or ready to be. Being in the room is important for this role.

This is a short‑term, high‑impact role. You'll jump in fast, contribute immediately, and help us deliver exceptional work under tight timelines.

If you require reasonable accommodation in interviewing, completing any employment testing, or otherwise participating in this hiring process, please use our application to indicate any specific inquiries. Only requests related to accommodations will be responded to.

All offers of employment at Ideas United are contingent upon clear results of a background check. Background checks will be conducted on all final candidates.
