Evening shift- 3:30 PM - 11:30 PM

Monday through Friday, with weekend and holiday rotation

ChristianaCare is searching for an experienced Sterile Processing Technician. The selected candidate will be responsible for cleaning, assembling, packaging and sterilizing of all instruments and equipment according to the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc. (CBSPD), the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), and the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) current standards. Incumbents are also accountable for demonstrating awareness of personal and work area safety at all times; using evidence-based practices (EBP) and complying with facility safety policies and procedures in carrying out duties including those for blood borne pathogens and communicable diseases and; keeping knowledge current on aseptic techniques and basic microbiology sufficient to understand the ways diseases and infections are transmitted and the importance of clean and sterile supplies in patient care; attending training in new and improved sterilization practices and developments in the microbiology, bacteriology, and therapeutic practices as they affect the sterile supply operation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cleans and decontaminates surgical instruments and other medical equipment following established policy and procedure.

  • Inspects, assembles, packages and sterilizes medical devices following manufacturer's recommendations and established procedure.

  • Assemble, wrap and label basic and especially specialty instruments and sets according to information in the CensiTrfac system for tracking purposes.

  • Receive, unload, sort, inspect, wash and process instruments and equipment for decontamination both manually and by automated means.

  • Reads, interprets, and records sterilization parameters from sterilizer recording mechanism and completes records of sterilization process, chemical/biological test results, and sterilizer cleaning.

  • Provides asset management and support of surgical instruments and trays belonging to or consigned to the facility, in accordance with The Department of Health, TJC, OSHA, CDC, AAMI and AORN standards.

  • Wrap and label stainless steel items.

  • Operate and perform daily cleaning and maintenance of all departmental equipment per policies for multiple sterilization and decontamination equipment.

  • Inventory and restock reprocessed sterile items in sterile storage areas.

  • Fill Operating Room case cart requisitions for scheduled next day cases, add-on cases and STAT cases with instruments, linen, stainless steel items, soft good supplies, etc.

  • Unload washer-disinfector racks of decontaminated instruments and stainless steel items and place in designated areas.

  • Assist with orientation and training of Sterile Processing Interns

  • Maintain assigned work area in a clean and organized manner following written departmental housekeeping policy.

  • Answer telephone calls as appropriate.

  • Perform other duties as required by department

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or GED required.

Sterile Processing Technician Certification CBSPD/CRCST required. Individuals that were employed prior to requirements will be grandfathered.

Hourly Pay Range: $19.84 - $29.76This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare's good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
