As the CPS Redaction and Support Unit Supervisor, you will lead our efforts to respond to requests for client records, protecting privacy and confidentiality and ensuring we meet all legal mandates. We are looking for someone to be a working supervisor, overseeing the daily operation of responding to requests for CPS and In-Home Services (IHS) client records and support for case documentation. You will provide administrative, educational, and supportive supervision to a junior analyst and an administrative assistant to ensure the work is performed to standards. You also will work collaboratively with others such as assistant county attorneys, records staff, law enforcement, and other child welfare staff.

You will serve as a primary subject matter expert for us on Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and privacy laws and on requirements for case documentation and court paperwork. While the job is primarily Monday-Friday from 8:00 - 4:30, FOIA requires strict timeframes and there is often a need to be flexible to ensure those timeframes are met. What you will do: In this job, you'll work with a small but mighty team in support of our mandated services. You will make an impact by: Managing responses to all CPS and IHS record requests ensuring compliance with all Federal, State and local laws and policies Managing the high volume of requests (averaging 50+ per month) to ensure timely responses Consulting and collaborating with attorneys, law enforcement and others as needed to ensure correct responses to client record requests Ensuring clients are treated with dignity and respect Serving as a subject matter expert for other child welfare professionals related to FOIA and documentation standards, answering questions and providing trainings as needed Building and maintaining an effective team and effective relationships with others What you will need to be successful: Working knowledge of human services programs and protocol Working knowledge of CPS intake and ongoing processes, procedures, and protocols Working knowledge of Virginia Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the Code of Virginia or Virginia Administrative Code (VAC), and the Government Data Collection and Dissemination Practices Act or VAC provision Ability to understand, interpret and communicate policies and procedures to staff Ability to provide guidance, supervise and train others Ability to objectively review and appraise the performance and work of others Ability to apply conflict resolution and problem-solving skills Ability to communicate and work effectively with co-workers, clients, other agencies, and the public Ability to efficiently plan, schedule and organize Knowledge of child protection laws, rules, and regulations Note: the functional areas for the position are: human services management and/or human services administration. CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: Valid driver's license NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, child protective services check, credit check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in a related human services field. At least two years of professional social service or human services experience related to child welfare.

Experience reviewing and responding to public records/FOIA requests involving confidential child welfare records with the application of child protective services policy. Staff supervision experience. At least two years of professional experience in areas such as records management, paralegal support, court services, or operations/administrative support.

Experience utilizing Microsoft office to track manage, and report data related to public records/FOIA requests. Experience utilizing redaction applications/software to review and redact client records. Experience working with a diverse multicultural population.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. Ability to navigate through and make decisions in stressful and crisis situations. Ability to use automated technology.

Must be able to operate motor vehicle. Sufficiently mobile to travel outside the office for client contact, court appearances, community events, and to conduct assessments and investigations of allegations of potential abuse and neglect. Work requires performing tasks with risks of secondary traumatic stress (STS).
