Job description

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director the water aerobics instructor is responsible for instructing safe, effective and fun group exercise classes, as well as enhancing the quality of the program. Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Experience in teaching water aerobics
  • Must hold and maintain current nationally recognized certification in the type of class you are teaching.
  • Certification can be from any nationally accredited organization that certifies water aerobics.
  • Must be willing to teach a minimum of 2 regularly scheduled water aerobics classes per week.
  • Provide a safe and effective workout in the class format scheduled, in accordance with current accepted practices of exercise physiology.
  • Supervise and guide the participants through an age appropriate workout that incorporates appropriate warm-up, cardiovascular endurance, cool down, strength and flexibility. Be aware of the various abilities of the participants and potential problems associated with poor form.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire participants
  • Modify exercises to accommodate different fitness levels and abilities
  • Provide a safe aquatic environment by keeping workout area or entrance to pool area clear of free of obstacles. Responsible for cleaning, organizing and maintaining all equipment especially following class.
  • Reduce risk of injury by adhering to national safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrate variations or modifications to encourage participants to pace themselves, and keep movements pain free.
  • Know and follow emergency procedures as situations warrant
  • Act as a primary responder in case of injury, accident, or illness in the pool area and provides backup to lifeguard as needed in emergencies and crowd control.
  • Start and finish classes on time. If unable to teach a class, instructor will find a substitute to cover assigned classes.
  • Participate in staff activities (meetings, staff functions).
  • Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED/Basic First Aid
  • Must maintain all appropriate certifications and provide copies of all certifications to aquatics director each year.
  • Excellent human relations and communication skills.
  • Team player (be willing to substitute teach for other instructors).
  • Walking, carrying, sitting, seeing, hearing, crouching, lifting (25lbs), pushing, kneeling, standing, and speaking.
