Role Summary:
We are recruiting for an Associate to join our Securities Selection team in our Active Equities department. The successful candidate will be joining a domain team which focuses on companies within the Consumer Discretionary sector. Reporting to the Managing Director, Active Equities - Consumer Discretionary the Associate is responsible for conducting sector focused, deep bottom-up fundamental research primarily on investment ideas and current portfolio holdings. The position is based in New York.
The Active Equities ("AE") department invests in large-cap public and pre-IPO equities in North America, Europe, Asia and LATAM. The strategy employs bottom-up and deep fundamental research insights to create a concentrated market-neutral portfolio of high conviction long and short investments. The Security Selection team has a global structure with the focus of generating differentiated long and short insights by leveraging specific domain level expertise.
Accountabilities & Qualifications:
Accountabilities
  • Compile industry, market and asset level data and financial information to support research
  • Build and leverage relationships with industry participants and management teams
  • Perform fundamental research and present research ideas to broader group
  • Perform due diligence on opportunities, including financial, company and sector diligence, to determine investment merits and risks
  • Develop company financial models and perform valuation analyses; apply statistical analysis to support investment decisions
  • Participate in evaluation, including sharing views on overall investment attractiveness based on findings from diligence work
  • Prepare analytical investment reviews and recommendations in collaboration with the team, including industry overviews, written investment rationales and due diligence reviews
  • Participate in presentation of investment recommendations to the Investment Committee and Board as required
  • Assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of existing portfolios
  • Support transition of new assets into CPPIB portfolio by identifying benchmarks, building financial models and providing rigorous project management support

Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree or college diploma in relevant field
  • An advanced degree or certification (CFA) is an asset
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience
  • Strong research, analytical, financial modeling, valuation, problem solving skills and ability to think creatively
  • Experience working in deal environments including supporting acquisitions, diligence and/or asset management activities
  • Advanced computer/technical skills - MS Excel, MS PowerPoint
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills

The salary range for this position is:
USD $145,000 - $212,000 US state/city legislation requires CPP investments to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The base salary range shown here is a reasonable expectation for the posted role and is part of a competitive total rewards package which includes comprehensive benefits, a performance-based incentive plan, a 401 (k) plan and paid time off. Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience and expertise.
