Job description

Key Responsibilities


1. Operations, Logistics & Arrival/Dismissal

  • Car Rider Line Management: Lead the daily coordination of morning arrival and afternoon dismissal. Ensure traffic flows safely, monitor student pedestrian safety, and maintain a visible, welcoming, and orderly presence.
  • Campus Security & Patrol: Actively patrol hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, locker rooms, parking lots, and common areas to prevent misconduct, identify unauthorized visitors, and ensure facility safety.
  • Cafeteria Supervision: Actively supervise cafeteria during assigned lunch period(s). Cover in-school-suspension and alternative education program instructors during lunches.
  • Emergency Response: Assist school administration and safety officers during emergency drills or active situations, serving as a reliable point of contact via radio communication.


2. Attendance & Behavior Tracking (Dean-Level Duties)

  • Tardy Tracking & Interventions: Monitor, record, and track daily student tardiness using the school’s student information system. Issue tardy slips, identify patterns of chronic lateness, and implement tier-1 interventions, coordinate after school detentions, work with administration on additional disciplinary steps.
  • Discipline and Documentation: Address minor behavioral infractions in real-time using restorative justice practices. Issue disciplinary warnings, document incidents accurately, and escalate major violations to the Assistant Principal or Principal.
  • Parent & Family Communication: Contact parents/guardians regarding persistent tardiness or minor behavioral concerns to collaborate on solutions.
  • Student Incentives: Coordinate Honor Roll Breakfasts and Student of the Month programming. Serve on school’s positive behavior support intervention framework.


3. Instructional Responsibilities

  • Classroom Instruction: Teach a designated non-core class daily (e.g., Student Leadership, Character Education, Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), Study Skills, or Health/Well-being) in the alternative education program.
  • Lesson Planning & Grading: Develop engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans aligned with district curriculum standards, assess student progress, and maintain an accurate grade book.
  • Substitute Teaching Support: Serve as an emergency substitute teacher for core classrooms on an as-needed basis.

4. Community Engagement & After-School Functions

  • Event Supervision: Attend and assist in supervising designated after-school functions/supervision, including athletic events, school dances, athletic events, parent-teacher conferences, and promotional ceremonies.
  • Culture Building: Actively participate in middle school morning meetings, assemblies, and student orientation events to foster an inclusive and respectful school culture.

Job Qualifications & Skills


Required:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (Education grades 5-12).
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience working with adolescents in an educational, coaching, or youth-development setting.
  • Communication: Exceptional interpersonal and verbal communication skills. Ability to defuse tense situations with calm, assertive, and fair boundary-setting.
  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to quickly learn and utilize student database software (e.g., Skyward, Parent Square, Canvas), generate attendance reports, and utilize basic productivity tools (Google Workspace/Microsoft Office).

Preferred:

  • Valid state teaching certification.
  • Training in Restorative Practices, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), or Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 70% of the workday) in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain) during car line and outdoor patrol duties.
  • Ability to jog or move quickly to respond to an emergency situation.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
