Marketing and Communications Manager

The Visual Effects Society (VES) seeks a dynamic and strategic Marketing and Communications Manager to lead and execute all marketing, branding, and communications efforts. This role is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive strategies that elevate our mission, expand our reach, and engage key audiences including members, partners, and the entertainment industry at large. The ideal candidate is both a big-picture thinker and a hands‑on executor. As the sole owner of this function, the Manager must be highly organized, creative, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced nonprofit setting.

About VES:

The Visual Effects Society (VES) is a global honorary society championing the innovative and creative world of VFX across all areas of entertainment. We have over 5,500 members in 50+ countries. We are committed to education, inspiration, and celebration of the VFX craft.

Key Responsibilities: Thought Leadership & Content Creation:
  • Create marketing points of view and strategic recommendations for leadership, HQ (headquarters) staff, and regional Sections.
  • Spearhead the creation, management, and dissemination of innovative and unique thought leadership content.
  • Collaborate with PR team for unified communications.
  • Cultivate a compelling global newsletter.
  • Create ads for industry pubs and collaborations as requested.
Digital: Primarily Focused on Email Marketing & Social Media:
  • Manage all VES social channels — Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube and X (Twitter), —including content planning, design, copywriting, scheduling and community engagement.
  • Craft engaging email communications for our members, employing best practices to enhance engagement.
  • Own end‑to‑end email production for HQ communications via Mailchimp: copywriting, design, QC, scheduling, deployment, and post‑send reporting (including a Global newsletter, campaign‑specific emails, etc.).
  • Enhance the member experience through strategic email journeys.
  • Support emails for our global Sections.
  • Manage and optimize the Mailchimp platform, including list management, segmentation, user access, and troubleshooting.
  • Track and report performance analytics across digital channels.
Brand:
  • Serve as the primary brand steward, ensuring consistency in language and visual identity across all outputs and messaging across all platforms and materials.
  • Provide creative direction, QC, and coordination for freelance designers, as required.
  • Collaborate with internal teams on design needs and maintain design consistency.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
  • 6+ years of marketing and communications leadership and hands‑on execution experience, ideally within entertainment, tech, or nonprofit sectors; VFX, animation, or post‑production background is a strong plus.
  • As the sole owner of this MarCom role, we are looking for someone who is a self‑starter and is passionate about collaborating with others to shape the narrative of an esteemed industry society across our channels.
  • MailChimp expert and proficient in Canva and MS Office Suite.
  • Excellent writer who knows how to establish and maintain a tone of voice across channels.
  • Experience in having managed editorial planning and execution of newsletters and thought leadership.
  • Proven track record, with examples, for leading integrated campaigns across social, email and web.
  • Fluent in social media creation, tracking, and management tools.
  • Comfortable with design tools; creation of social, email and web assets as needed. Can manage freelance designers and ensure brand identity is carried out through any outsourced design projects.
  • Excellent project management skills, with a record of successful project delivery on time.
  • Ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment, ethical integrity, and discretion with confidential information.
Benefits, Compensation and Working Hours:
  • Competitive Benefits Package: includes medical/dental/vision insurance, vacation pay, retirement plan and FSA.
  • Salary Range: $83,000-$87,000/year, depending on experience.
  • Working Hours: This position is a full‑time, exempt salaried position located at our Sherman Oaks, CA office. Occasional nights or weekend work are required. Willingness to travel, as needed, to industry events or conferences.
