Job description

Description The Part-time Correctional Transport Officer is responsible for the safe transportation of inmates and Department of Homeland Security detainees as required by the Sheriff's Office. This position may also involve providing security at the courthouse, assisting with jury trials, and performing other duties as directed by the Sheriff. Job Duties Safely transport inmates and DHS detainees as needed.

Inspect transport vehicles prior to use, including searching the prisoner compartment, and document all inspections. Monitor the condition of transport vehicles and equipment, submitting repair requests as necessary. Communicate with other facilities regarding transport schedules and timing.

Prepare and submit various reports and documents as required. Safely transport inmate/detainee property, including medications and checks. Transport meals for inmates/detainees during transit when required.

Document transport details such as mileage, times, and other relevant information. Secure inmates/detainees in restraints during transport. Adhere to all policies and procedures applicable to the role.

Respond promptly to transport availability communications. Assist with courthouse security as needed, following instructions from full-time security staff. Serve as a jury attendant when required, following established protocols.

Participate in training as necessary to maintain POST certification and meet Sheriff's Office requirements. Perform other duties as assigned or required. Qualifications Associate's degree or equivalent in Law Enforcement or a related field.

Minnesota POST licensed or eligible to be licensed at the time of hire. Valid Minnesota Driver's License, with a clean driving record. CPR and First Aid certification.

Ability to qualify with county-issued firearms. Supplemental Information Knowledge State and Federal laws, rules, and regulations applicable to detainee transport and court security. Courtroom procedures, roles, and conduct standards.

Jail and transport policies and procedures. Incident and report writing protocols. Proper procedures for handling detainees and maintaining security during transport and in public settings.

Skills Operating law enforcement vehicles safely in various conditions and over long distances. Applying proper inmate restraint techniques and ensuring detainee safety. Following detailed verbal and written instructions accurately.

Preparing and maintaining clear, accurate, and legible reports. Communicating professionally and effectively with detainees, the public, court personnel, and other law enforcement staff. Remaining calm and composed in high-pressure or unexpected situations.

Using computer software for communication, scheduling, and report documentation. Physical Demands Must be able to lift and move up to 75 pounds. Ability to stand, sit, and walk for prolonged periods.

Perform duties that involve physical exertion such as restraining individuals, bending, climbing stairs, and repetitive motion. Work both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather and environmental conditions. Operate a motor vehicle for extended periods and distances.

Additional Requirements Must be a U.S. citizen or legally authorized to work in the United States. Must pass a comprehensive background check
