Certified Court Reporter - Seattle, WA

CLFC Healthcare and Communications

Seattle, WA โ€ข On-site

$140K - $200K/yr

Contractor

Posted 26 days ago

Job description

Total earning potential: $140,000 to $200,000+ annually (1099 independent contractor, workload dependent). CLFC compensates federal court reporters through an appearance and attendance fee PLUS retained transcript page revenue and expedited and realtime premiums, so your earnings scale with the work you produce, not a flat hourly wage.

CLFC is building its certified court reporter roster in the Seattle market to support United States Attorney's Office grand jury, deposition, and administrative proceedings. This is recurring federal work across CLFC's nationwide legal-support practice, not a single engagement.

How the compensation works:

  • Appearance and attendance compensation for your time at each proceeding
  • 70% of transcript page revenue retained by the reporter, across ordinary, expedited, daily, and hourly delivery tiers
  • Realtime and rough-draft premiums where the proceeding requires them
  • Steady, recurring federal assignment volume with predictable scheduling
  • CLFC manages scheduling, credentialing, and payment so you focus on the record

What you will do: produce a complete, accurate, verbatim record of grand jury sessions, depositions, and hearings; deliver certified transcripts within federal turnaround tiers; provide realtime output where required; mark and maintain custody of exhibits; and uphold strict confidentiality, including Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 6(e) grand jury secrecy.

Required qualifications:

  • RPR (NCRA) certification or an active state Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR) license valid in the jurisdiction of assignment
  • Minimum 3 years of professional court reporting experience
  • Eligibility to pass a federal Moderate Background Investigation (MBI) and obtain suitability for grand jury and other secure proceedings
  • U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident seeking citizenship, meeting federal residency requirements
  • For deposition assignments, a Notary Public commission in the jurisdiction of assignment or the ability to obtain one
  • Proficiency with stenographic CAT software and reliable professional equipment with redundant backup recording

Strongly preferred: Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR) and/or Registered Merit Reporter (RMR); federal court, U.S. Attorney's Office, or grand jury experience; active or clearance-eligible federal suitability.

Engagement: Independent Contractor (1099). Assignments are accepted individually and you remain free to accept or decline based on availability and location. Travel reimbursed per assignment terms.
