Job description

Overview

Under the direction of the Nurse Manager closely monitors changes in EKG patterns of the designated patients placed on telemetry monitoring.  This is a technical position with no supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Monitors/visualizes patient's EKG rhythm relative to predetermined parameters using the telemetry monitoring equipment.

1.     Describe responsibility:

 

Documents patient's rhythm, reports on patient's cardiac activity, and furnishes recording of changes as requested.

2.     Describe responsibility:

 

Notifies appropriate professional staff, RN, attending, house staff physician, of any changes in EKG pattern of a patient(s).

3.     Describe responsibility:

 

Input, update, and retrieve information to/from the telemetry monitoring equipment.

4.     Describe responsibility:

 

Observe screen of cardiac monitor and listens for alarm to identify abnormal variation in heart rhythm.

5.     Describe responsibility:

 

Notifies appropriate nursing and Biomedical Engineering personnel of any telemetry equipment malfunction.

6.     Describe responsibility:

 

Maintain inventory of supplies for telemetry equipment

7.     Describe responsibility:

 

Carries out activities to ensure the appropriate, accurate and safe functioning of equipment.

Qualifications

High school or GED required

BCLS

One (1) year experience in hospital setting and patient care capacity

Attendance in a Telemetry course preferred

EKG Technician Training or equivalent

Prior telemetry experience or EKG experience
