Join the Hamilton County Engineer's Office Asset Management Team! We're looking for a Civil Engineering Technician who enjoys a mix of field work and technology. General Description
This technical role supports the Agency's Asset Management Program by bridging the gap between field reality and digital infrastructure. You will be responsible for the end-to-end data lifecycle: from physically locating and inspecting storm sewer assets with specialized robotics to entering and updating data, assigning condition rating for collected assets and assisting with the design of the Esri-based schema that will house this data for future hydraulic modeling and master planning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Planning Administration:
  • Participates in field investigations and the research and preparation of reports of findings for various projects
  • Completes standardized transportation system asset condition assessments and updates asset inventories using modern office and field equipment.
  • Investigates complaints and prepares reports on findings, recommends solutions; conducts research related to right-of-way needs
  • Utilizes computer to calculate, tabulate, file and maintain related records; determines suitability of current data gathering systems
  • Assists in the production of desired reports for department planning and operations; validates information as needed
  • Assists in the input, design, and maintenance of GIS layers and attribute tables to support a future utility model for storm sewer infrastructure
  • Assists in the preparation and review of design drawings, layouts, contract plans and related specifications;
  • Helps prepare related project documentation (e.g., quantity estimates, bid documents, right-of-way plans, legal descriptions, etc.)
  • Assists in the review of plans and specifications to verify compliance with agreements, project requirements and specifications and state and local construction specifications
  • Utilizes CADD and modern engineering software packages
Minimum Qualifications: A high school diploma (or GED), plus some college or training in a related field like Engineering Technology, CAD (Computer-Aided Design), GIS, Construction, Surveying, Civil Engineering, or something similar; OR A mix of education, job experience, and training that gives you the skills needed for the job—even if you don’t have a formal degree.

Working Conditions / Physical Demands
Employee works in high traffic areas of roads, ascends and/or descends ladders, stairs, or scaffolds; works in an area in which the means of egress is or can be obstructed; works in OSHA designated confined spaces, is exposed to environmental conditions which may result in injury from fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and/or poorly ventilated work areas; is exposed to possible injury from hazardous gases, chemicals, flammables, air contaminants, hazardous waste, unclean or unsanitary conditions, electrical shock; exposed to possibly injury as a result of working with moving mechanical parts of equipment or machines; works in or around crowds; has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons or vicious animals or life threatening situations; has exposure to fire, hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy weather conditions; exposure to hazardous driving conditions; exerts 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently; occasionally lifts objects 50 pounds or less; occasionally carries objects 50 pounds or less; occasionally pushes objects 50 pounds or less; occasionally pulls objects 50 pounds or less.
Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered medium work.
In cases of emergency, unpredictable situations, and/or department needs, may be required to lift, push, pull, and/or carry objects heavier than D.O.L. strength ratings recommend.
