Summary

The Stone Countertop Polisher is responsible for the final finishing of stone surfaces, including granite, quartz, and marble, using both hand tools and power equipment. This position ensures that each countertop meets company quality standards for smoothness, consistency, and appearance. The Polisher works collaboratively with the fabrication and installation teams to meet production goals while maintaining safety, efficiency, and attention to detail.

Essential Functions

Surface Finishing

  • Polish and finish stone countertops to achieve consistent, high-quality surfaces.

  • Utilize appropriate polishing pads, grits, and compounds for various materials and finishes.

  • Perform final detailing to meet customer specifications and aesthetic standards.

Edge Detail Work

  • Create and refine edge profiles (e.g., bullnose, bevel, ogee, eased, waterfall) based on project requirements.

  • Inspect edge quality for uniformity and smooth transitions across the entire surface.

Quality Control

  • Examine finished stone pieces for defects, scratches, chips, or inconsistencies.

  • Perform touch-ups and corrections as necessary to meet production and quality specifications.

Material Handling

  • Safely move, position, and handle large stone slabs using cranes, dollies, and lifting equipment.

  • Assist with the setup and staging of materials for polishing and finishing processes.

Equipment Maintenance

  • Clean, inspect, and maintain polishing machines, pads, and hand tools to ensure proper function and longevity.

  • Report equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly to the Fabrication Manager.

Safety Compliance

  • Follow all company safety policies, including the use of PPE such as respirators, gloves, and eye protection.

  • Maintain awareness of environmental hazards such as silica dust and operate in compliance with OSHA standards.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with fabricators, installers, and supervisors to ensure production schedules and quality requirements are met.

  • Communicate proactively regarding workflow, material issues, and quality concerns.

Productivity & Cleanliness

  • Maintain a clean, organized work area, ensuring that tools and materials are stored properly.

  • Meet or exceed daily production targets while maintaining high quality standards.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

  • 1+ years of experience in stone polishing, fabrication, or related trades.

  • Ability to lift heavy materials (up to 100 lbs) and stand for extended periods.

  • Knowledge of various stone types (granite, quartz, marble, etc.) and corresponding finishing techniques.

  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, or fabrication tickets.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality craftsmanship.

  • Familiarity with safe use of polishing tools, machinery, and material handling equipment.

Preferred

  • Experience in a countertop fabrication or stone manufacturing environment.

  • Understanding of water recycling systems, polishing pad maintenance, and fabrication workflow.

  • Forklift or overhead crane certification.

Work Environment

  • Work performed primarily in a fabrication facility with exposure to machinery, noise, dust, and varying temperatures.

  • Requires the use of PPE, including gloves, steel-toed boots, ear protection, and respirators as needed.

  • Involves regular standing, bending, lifting, and working with hand tools and machinery.
