Job description

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

The CBJ treatment system is comprised of three Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW), with over 140 miles of mainline collections and 45 lift stations, servicing a diversity of domestic, industrial, and marine clients. Our waste treatment system is vital to our community, keeping our pristine and valuable fisheries and marine systems intact and productive.

After several decades of service, our complex and sprawling facilities are now undergoing a series of major technological upgrades and refits. Our goal is to usher the CBJ Utility into an era of advanced SCADA-controlled collections and treatment automation combined with integrated industrial source controls.

The successful candidate for this position will be well qualified to manage the operations of each of our three POTWs, using proactive approaches to maintain and exceed our regulatory expectations and protect our valuable receiving waters. The candidate will also use their creative, innovative, and technological skills to assist us in automating and controlling our systems for best efficiency and resilience.

  • Use and assist with the evolution of the POTW SCADA systems and SCADA derived data to effectively monitor and operate the POTWs. Work in collaboration with the Utilities Collections team to adapt POTW operations for climate-change induced discharge events and other source control issues.
  • Communicate in a professional manner with regulatory and other outside agencies concerning operations compliance of the wastewater facilities.
  • Make decisions based on operational control data generated by the wastewater plant equipment and staff reports to ensure pretreatment systems are functioning at peak performance.

  • Maintain information in field logs and spreadsheets etc., issue work orders and schedule preventative maintenance on equipment as needed.
  • Assist Public Works Engineering with POTW capital projects to include developing project scope of work, selection of engineering design consultants, and perform on-site supervision of contractors performing the project scope of work.
  • Participate in operations meetings with the Treatment Manager, Utility Supervisor and other Public Works staff.
  • Work directly with other DPW Operations staff in planning and coordinating special projects relating to the POTW and the Sewer Collections System.
