COSMETOLOGY TEACHER ASSISTANT
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
SALARY: $28.50 hourly
SUMMARY:
The Cosmetology Teacher Assistant supports the instructional program within the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Cosmetology pathway. This position assists students in developing technical, academic, and workplace readiness skills while promoting social, physical, and intellectual growth. The successful candidate will help create engaging, hands-on learning experiences that prepare students for careers in cosmetology, beauty services, and related industries.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience working in cosmetology, hairstyling, esthetics, nail technology, barbering, or a related beauty industry field.
  • Current or previous Michigan Cosmetology License preferred.
  • Experience working in a state-approved cosmetology program or supervising cosmetology students preparing for the Michigan State Board of Cosmetology Licensure Examination.
  • Knowledge of cosmetology safety, sanitation, and infection-control procedures.
  • Experience supporting students in hands-on, project-based learning environments.
  • Ability to demonstrate cosmetology techniques and industry best practices.
  • Familiarity with Michigan cosmetology licensure requirements and industry-recognized certifications.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
  • Interest in supporting students pursuing careers in the beauty and wellness industry.

POSITION DETAILS:
  • Full-time Teaching Assistant position at Ypsilanti Community High School.

  3. Assist students with practical cosmetology skills, projects, and hands-on learning activities.
  4. Promote proper sanitation, safety, and infection-control procedures.
  5. Help maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning and student engagement.
  6. Encourage positive student behavior and reinforce classroom expectations.
  7. Support instructional activities designed to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  8. Assist with preparing materials, equipment, and instructional resources for lessons and laboratory experiences.
  9. Help monitor student progress and maintain appropriate records as directed by the teacher.
  10. Assist with inventory, organization, and maintenance of salon equipment, tools, and supplies.
  11. Support students in developing workplace readiness, professionalism, customer service, and technical skills.
  12. Assist the instructor in preparing students for the Michigan State Board of Cosmetology Licensure Examination and industry-recognized credentialing opportunities.
  13. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and community partners as needed.
  14. Be available for school-related activities and events as assigned.
