Senior Project Accountant

POSITION SUMMARY:

  • We are seeking an experienced accounting professional to support capital and project accounting activities across a large-scale retail organization.
  • This role partners closely with Construction, Real Estate, Procurement, Finance, and Operations teams to ensure accurate accounting treatment of capital investments, asset management activities, and complex business initiatives.
  • The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with business acumen, analytical thinking, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform accounting analysis and oversight for capital projects, construction, remodels, facility improvements, and asset replacement initiatives.
  • Evaluate expenditures and determine appropriate capital versus expense treatment in accordance with company policy and accounting standards.
  • Manage fixed asset accounting activities, including capitalization, depreciation, transfers, impairments, and asset retirements.
  • Research and resolve complex accounting issues involving historical transactions, project costs, and asset management.
  • Support month-end close activities, audits, and internal control requirements related to capital and fixed asset accounting.
  • Partner with project managers, construction teams, real estate professionals, procurement teams, and finance leadership to provide accounting guidance and business support.
  • Review project documentation and provide recommendations regarding accounting treatment and financial impact.
  • Drive timely resolution of accounting and project-related issues through effective communication and stakeholder engagement.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience.

Strong knowledge of:

  • U.S. GAAP
  • Project Accounting
  • Fixed Asset Accounting
  • Capitalization policies and principles
  • Capital project accounting
  • Experience supporting construction, facilities, real estate, capital projects, or other asset-intensive environments.
  • Experience supporting month-end close activities, including:
  • Journal entries
  • Reconciliations
  • Accounting analyses
  • Financial reporting
  • Strong understanding of accounting treatments for complex and non-routine transactions.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including:
  • Pivot Tables
  • VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP
  • Data analysis and reporting functions
  • Experience working with Oracle and/or another major ERP system.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPA designation preferred but not required.
  • Experience in retail, distribution, manufacturing, or multi-site operating environments.
  • Experience supporting large capital investment programs and project-based accounting environments.
  • Experience leading accounting processes, special projects, or process improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of project accounting systems, fixed asset subledgers, and enterprise financial systems.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with Construction, Real Estate, Procurement, Finance, and Operations teams.
