What is a copy?

Copywriters are professionals who create written content for advertising, marketing, and other forms of communication. Their primary goal is to craft persuasive and engaging messages that encourage a target audience to take a specific action, such as making a purchase, signing up for a newsletter, or learning more about a product or service. Copywriters work across various platforms, including websites, social media, print ads, emails, and more. They use creativity and market research to tailor their writing to the needs and preferences of different audiences.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a copywriter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Copywriter, you need excellent writing, editing, and research skills, usually supported by a background in English, marketing, or communications. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), SEO tools, and analytics platforms is often required. Creativity, adaptability, attention to detail, and effective collaboration are soft skills that set outstanding copywriters apart. These capabilities ensure that copy is engaging, accurate, and tailored to meet strategic marketing objectives.

How does a copywriter typically collaborate with designers and marketing teams during a project?

Copywriters often work closely with designers and marketing teams to ensure that messaging aligns seamlessly with visual elements and campaign goals. During a typical project, you'll participate in brainstorming sessions, provide drafts for feedback, and adjust copy based on input from creative and marketing leads. Open communication and adaptability are essential, as projects may require multiple revisions to achieve the best result. This collaborative environment helps create cohesive campaigns that resonate with the target audience.

Citco is a global leader in fund services, corporate governance and related asset services with staff over 80 offices worldwide. With more than $1 trillion in assets under administration, we deliver ed-to-end solutions and exceptional service to meet our clients' needs.

Through our network of global development centers, Citco invests heavily in technology innovation to ensure our clients continue to receive award-winning products that underpin our commitment to service excellence.

We are looking for a Senior UX Writer specializing in Design Systems to define and scale how language is used across our digital products.  This role sits at the intersection of content design, product design, and system architecture, ensuring consistency, clarity, and usability across all user experiences.   You will own the language layer of our design system from microcopy patterns to voice and tone standards, helping teams ship cohesive, intuitive, and accessible experiences at scale.  This role will bring our brand voice to life across the entire digital ecosystem through the Design System.  You will write like a real human talks, and translate the hardest ideas into a language that's honest, warm, and genuinely useful without corporate gloss/complexity.

The position is based in Toronto and may require some international travel to other CITCO locations. The Senior UX/UI Designer will report to the Design Director, and interact with business stakeholders, and technical groups.

About You:

  • You must have 5-7 years of experience in UX writing, content design, or related fields
  • A portfolio that shows how your copy improves user experience
  • Proven ability to lead content initiatives in fast-paced, agile environments
  • Strong knowledge of UX design principles, usability, and accessibility
  • Experience working in design tools like Figma, and familiarity with systems like Jira or Confluence
  • Experience contributing to Design System directly

Salary Range: CAD $110,000 - CAD $140,000

  • This position is not for an existing vacancy; we are building a candidate pool for future opportunities.

Our Benefits:

Your well-being is of paramount importance to us, and central to our success. We provide a range of benefits, training and education support, and flexible working arrangements to help you achieve success in your career while balancing personal needs. Ask us about specific benefits in your location.

We embrace diversity, prioritizing the hiring of people from diverse backgrounds. Our inclusive culture is a source of pride and strength, fostering innovation and mutual respect.

Citco welcomes and encourages applications from people with disabilities. Accommodations are available upon request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection.

Your Role:

  • Define and maintain content standards within the design system
  • Create reusable micro-copy patterns (e.g., forms, errors, empty states, confirmations)
  • Establish naming conventions, terminology, and content tokens
  • Partner with design system teams to integrate content into components and patterns
  • Write clear, concise, and user-focused copy for digital interfaces (buttons, labels, onboarding, errors)
  • Write with both precision and warmth, making complex health information feel human and actionable
  • Collaborate with product designers to ensure content aligns with interaction design and flows
  • Define and maintain a centralized product glossary covering approved terminology across all digital products
  • Ensure copy helps users complete tasks efficiently and without friction
  • Work with Marketing to define and evolve voice and tone guidelines across products
  • Build documentation and guidance for designers, engineers, and product teams
  • Review and approve product copy to maintain consistency at scale.
